I am just freshening up my MotorHome. New flooring Vinyl planks replaced the Flotex carpet. New Compressor fridge. General tidy up and off to Clontarf in a week or so to get a new Vinyl Awning replacement.
I decided to clean the Fan on my Dometic aircon unit.
Disconnected the Mains power. Switched the three way Power board switch to neutral position, Inverter off Mains off.
Switched on mains light /Nothing Switched on 12 volt light/ nothing. Fridge off.
So all good.
Went on roof and split aircon cover. Those two piece button type clips.
I was going to start cleaning the fan and thought I should double check the power. I had recently bought a Non contact pen type device that shows if a cable/wire has power running. Both DC and AC.
Glad I did.
Live wires. How? I had done all the checks.disconnected the mains switched off the inverter. Checked that the lights etc were not connected.
Duh !!!! I have six solar panels on the roof.
I did not switch the Isolator off. Solar still churning out power.
Handy little device I shall use anytime I need to check if a cable is live.
Well worth the $12 off Fleabay.
Following link is to the Pen I bought. The isolator to the six solar panels has three bars of I assume copper, each one about 20mm x 10mm so would take a fair old current. The display in the MH generally shows 13.7 volts being generated on a normal day.
I am not an Electrician, but I will assume that it was only 12 volt DC, that was live in the aircon, considering you had switched off the main power, and the inverter
My clamp meter has NCV (Non contact voltage), even at the end of a 5 volt USB lead not plugged in at the phone end to charge, it will light up indicating that there is voltage.
