New canvas for awning

Needing to replace the plastic canvas on our awning, its starting to rip along the top where connects to the caravan,

have asked a couple of out fits, and i get told its cheaper to replace  canvas and roller as one unit,

is this correct ? . and if not, how easy is it to replace myself , and where to buy seeing thy are  all standard sizes

Found this in line www.u-buy.com.au/catalog/product/view/id/8540278/s/rv-vinyl-awning-replacement-fabric-slate-blue-fade-21-fabric-202-a

Otherwise Dometic are the major supplier of awnings and parts.

Be careful when buying a new fabric for your awning. This one may be OK - I don't know, but I bought a new roll complete a few years ago. The original awning on my caravan was basically white with a blue trim. The replacement was blue with a white trim - dark blue. The description said blue ( white (or maybe white & blue). Yes - the awning and new roll fitted no problems, but we cannot sit under the awning because the radiant heat coming through the fabric is too intense on a full sun day. A basically white awning will be much cooler.

Do a search on here re Vinyl awning replacements.I was looking at a company in Clontarf Northern Suburb of Brisbane. Another GN on here told me about a different company which had better service and prices also in Clontarf.

As for buying the whole lot roller and vinyl unless your roller is bent or damaged, Why> . YouTube replacing an Vinyl  awning, and there are lots on there that take you through the whole process step by step. A reasonably competent do it your selfer could do the job with a helper. They also mention the springs and if and when they need replacing.

This is the company I was advised were very good in Clontarf.

Usual proviso. I have no affiliation or had work done by them Only another GN 's advice they were good to do business with and with good prices.

The above mentioned company has an absolutely huge range of caravanning and camping gear, all at good prices. The staff all are very knowledgeable, and are happy to help, once you manage to get their attention!Whilst setting up my van,I bought a lot of gear there after unsatisfactory service at another supplier in Clontarf.Cheers

I painted the first roll at the top
Where sun shines . To protect
From Suns UV . It seemed to have rejuvenated the awning . Paint is not visible from
ground . Maybe a little Sikoflex repair ? Then paint ?

We recently had our awning replaced by Aussie Traveller and they did it on site at the premises in Melbourne. Organised with them at the Melbourne Caravan Show at the showgrounds. Very happy with the product and only had to replace "canvas" as felt the roller was still okay. Van is a 2013 Chief.

Regards,

David
