New to this forum, not new to forums or the 'net but new to Grey Nomadding.
I just signed the contract today on my first motorhome a 2104 VW Crafter fitted with the Euro spec by Talvor.
My First question is why doesn't this vehicle come with a "Park" setting on the auto gearbox? Am I supposed to trust the handbrake when I park on a slope?
This problem is exaserbated by having to disengege the hand brake to be able to swivel the driver's chair around.
Solutions, suggestions? Thanks Folks!
BTW, Im in Perth & planning a big trip this year.
I'm up with the solar and battery technology etc as I'm a Sparky. So please feel free to pitch your questions at me.
Welcome Lucid, I doubt many on here could answer your questions as to why the VW Transmission is not as in other vehicles. Perhaps you should write to VW and request a solution for it's apparent inadequacies.

I'm surprised it could be even get registered with that set up.
As a suggestion only....maybe when you stop for a stay etc put wheel chocks at the wheels then at least it can't move on you for whatever reason. A nuisance at times I spose.

Hello Lucid Welcome to Grey Nomads. Fiat Ducato Comfortmatic auto gearbox also does not have a PARK position. This is from the manual
PARKING THE VEHICLE To park safely, it is essential to engage 1st gear or reverse (R) gear with your foot on the brake pedal. If parking on a slope,operate the brake pedal. It is also essential to wait until the gear engaged disappears from the reconfigurable multifunction display before releasing the brake pedal. IMPORTANT NEVER leave your vehicle with the gearbox in neutral (N).
So I would imagine that the gearbox locks in some fashion, hasn't rolled away to date
Thanks for that info Jeff, they sure make it non-intuitive don't they. A bit like Holden not making it blindingly obvious how you are supposed to open the fuel cap on a Commodore. I was tuck at the servo for 40 minutes looking that one up in the manual! they didn't even have it in the contents -"refuelling" would seem a pretty important chapter.
I haven't picked up the van get but I should have taken off with the glovebox book.
I reckon it's a 6 speed dual clutch unit that is used in a few Euro vehicles. I found a YouTube video wher they had one in a flash BMW. They said to engage park you had to switch off the engine whilst it was in drive or reverse. The display would show park until you took out the key and when you went to start it up again. Tricky! The BMW had the same gear lever and gear knob markings as the Crafter.
