I think you may be referring to the Australian manufacturer McHitch, and the Uniglide automatic trailer coupling, it has a similarity to a Ring Feder and is available in 3.5 and 4.5 ton formats.

I have using the earlier McHitch drop on pin type coupling for a considerable number of years and am very pleased with its operation and, quality and strength.

A quick google of Mchitch uniglide couplings will give you the picture and info.

Hi Frank....be need to be very careful if you are considering using that device.It increases TBO,which transfers even more weight to your car's rear axle,and makes the whole outfit less stable.Very popular,and good if you are not nearing the maximum tow capacity of your car,but think 'levers',and the 'tail wagging the Dog'.What car and van do you have? I have been the very happy owner of the McHitch auto hitch that you are describing for nearly 5 years now and have covered about 60,000 k's with it. Love it. Would not use any other hitch on my van. I have the 3500kg model. Absolutely brilliant. Easiest hitch to hook up ever. Only trick is to get the height of car and van lined up. Can come in at pretty much any angle. No rattles or movement in the coupling. I have used it across both sealed and unsealed roads towing 3 tonne. Even thinking of fitting one to my race car trailer.

Another very happy user of the mchitch auto , although i am currently using a do35 ( only because it came on the new van and i thought i would give it a go )
was very happy with the mchitch it is an excellent product . Used mine on the mn triton and my bt50 towing 21ft van and had no instability problems at all.

Hi Steve...do yourself a favour and stick with the DO35.The absolute last thing a Triton needs,with its lightweight chassis and long TBO,is an even longer towball overhang.You do say"used mine" so perhaps you no longer have a Triton?The BT50 is a good car,with 8" longer wheelbase and shorter TBO than a Triton,but I simply cannot understand why people insist on increasing the TBO on cars that have lightweight rear axles? The shorter the TBO is, the more stable is the whole combination,and the greater is the carrying capacity of the car because less weight is removed from the front axle and applied to the rear,allowing more "stuff" to be loaded into the car.And,having used both,I venture to say that I found the DO35 to be a significantly better product that allows quick and easy hitching and unhitching on uneven ground,and,because of the shorter TBO,the van has less effect on the car.Simple physics.Cheers

The Couple Mate is not bad, have used one in the past, but not a patch on the McHitch for a number of reasons. I have a couple of different styles of hitches over the years and whilst have had some quite good ones the McHitch is by far the best I have used.
