I Wonder!

I am presently on the mid north coast of NSw and over the last few days have seen the best and worst of peoples' behaviour.

Whilst watching the sun go down over the water last night I thought about past trips up north during the winter months and some of the treatment I and others had received from money hungry caravan parks, tourist operators and assorted spivs with their collective hands out for the tourist dollar. The attitude of "if you don't like the price go elsewhere", the view by some locals that if you arrived in their town towing a caravan you were just another pest to be financially exploited and then sent on your way, is still a rather fresh memory. I am not saying all people or operators were like this and not all towns were unfriendly, but there were sufficient numbers to leave a memory.

Things have changed dramatically over the last few days and continue to evolve. I imagine the great flow of grey nomads from the southern areas of our great country will be thinking twice about heading north this winter. Those that do will come to a screeching halt at the Qld border with the prospect of a 14 day isolation. It is my understanding that this cannot be done in a caravan park as shared amenities are used. I imagine with the great reduction in tourists a lot of these parks that used to be packed to the gunnels will be somewhat the opposite. The tours, the attractions will be mostly closed or limited. I wonder how many people will want to travel to places that are closed down or have their attractions limited.

I feel very sorry for the poor employees of these operations that have now lost their employment. They were not the ones that made the decisions regarding prices and attitudes but just did what they had been instructed to keep their jobs. As I said before, I don't paint them all with the one brush but there were some real standout performers known to us all.

Perhaps these people might have a little time for reflection as the next period unfolds and begin to appreciate the difference between running a profitable business and gouging.

Karma is a funny thing. I wonder if anything will change on the other side of this crisis.

Just a small comment here , to keep the conversation going . I my lifetime of experience of travelling this great brown land , I find nobody likes new people , that's probably generalising a bit but that's the guts of it . Start a new job and find out all about it! Takes a while for people to get used to change .

& If it wasn't for the Chinese people in the 1800s white Australia would collapsed due to lack of people with the skills for farming.

They haven't been around 3000+ generations, but some Chinese families would have been here a lot longer than white people & contributed a lot more than these bogans!
