When I arrived back from South Africa on Sunday the 22nd March I had to fill out a form at Sydney Airport giving them my contact details and the address where I would be spending my 14 days in self isolation. Today (13) I got my first phone call from NSW Health to make sure that I was at home and not suffering any health issues (physical or mental). The young lady on the phone was very pleasant and gave me heaps of information about Covid 19 and on what assistance was available to me from NSW health if I needed it. She asked me for my feedback on the the self isolation process - I told her that had been no big deal other than being a bit boring.
What I did tell her was that I was absolutely disgusted with the way that people returning from overseas had been treated when they landed at Sydney Airport. I got there along with 2 plane loads full of people, we were all herded shoulder to shoulder into cattle grids to eventually be processed through immigration (probably about 45 minutes). For a country preaching the necessity of social distancing this was the complete opposite to what they were telling us we had to do. I have heard since that after a lot of criticism they did change the way that they were processing new arrivals.
Great while I was adjusting about a dozen clocks around the house I realised that I will have to spend another hour in isolation.... probably the only time in my life that I wished I lived in Qld....
