We have a Suburban HWS and during a recent trip the Pressure Temperature Relief valve started dripping and is gradually getting worse. I bought a new valve but are having difficulty in getting the old one off. By the state of the anode I replaced recently I am guessing that there maybe some corrosion to the internal thread of the PTR valve. Have been soaking in WD40 for some time but still wont budge. I am worried that if I give it a real go, I will probable stuff the threads completely. Anyone got any ideas would be appreciated thanks
Try a plasticine dam around it & use penetrene overnight, judicious use of a small gas torch around the area may help, could soften any sealant that was used on fitting,
I find penetrene still one of the best,
Joda.
I would also turn the HWS on, let it heat the tank up, then TURN the HWS OFF ( power and gas) and try again maybe the extra heat on the thread will help to get the old valve out.
