Half of Europe's coronavirus deaths were residents in aged care homes

I hope I never end up in an aged care facility. I think I'll also avoid cruises. Both are death traps.

"As many as half of all coronavirus deaths in Europe are residents of aged care facilities, the World Health Organization (WHO) says."

I agree with what you say, Dorian

My dear old mother in law, of 96 years, will never get placed in a nursing home, if I have any say in her future care

I have a theory, but have no way of proving it, as it is just a gut feeling

In a cruise ship, and inside an aged care nursing home, the common denominator, to my way of thinking, is the circulation of the air

On a cruise ship, not every customer would have had the same cook/waiter/cleaner

In an aged care nursing home, not every patient would have had the same carer

I hope (will assume), that when everything becomes normal, whatever the new normal will be
That the boffins, will look at the recirculation of air, in cruise ships, and aged nursing homes

My mum died at home, in the end we had a hospital bed, oxygen concentrator, alternating air pressure mattress. These mattresses help a lot to prevent bedsores, worth every cent.

If you have the money, time & can cope mentally, it is a real privileged to have this at home. We set up the lounge room with the hospital bed.

y wife has worked in age care, probably getting  close to 25 years, mainly tassie bot also in Albuny, Rockingham aand Broome being the major ones. A lot of staff would be in contact with most residence on a daily basis or at the very least a shift rotation.

I done maintenance in a 100 odd bed nursing home and in a week I would be in all rooms at least once

Where I worked there was no air circ system,

cheers

They say that all this quarantine thing is to "Protect the vulnerable" How about they let us out and put a tad more effort into protecting those in nursing homes. It shouldn't be too hard, they have a captive audience.

Going into a nursing home is not a nice thought. My mum was in one for the last few months of her life and was looked after very well, which i am grateful for. I am all for eithenasia if it gets that bad.

Aeged care homes get little natural sun & air.Dont forget the Sunlight needs.Cruise ships similar. They all -" coralled & herded-" to suit the rigid routines of staff & cleaners & overly hygienic..Immune systems get lazy & stop working without the natural things needed.Keep your parents at home forever, you are the best carers not strangers.Motivation $$$ granny's ATM balances & profits is priority 1-- nurse homes & they're overly mollycoddled.

My mother was in a nursing home. I often felt her biggest problem was she didn't have to do any thing. Couldn't even make a cup of tea or go and get a glass of water. Not very good for the physc. Mollycoddled, not quite, but I felt it took all purpose out of life.

Many of the aged in these homes are suffering from some form of Dementia, and incontinence - it is very hard to keep a sanitation regime without 1 to 1 staffing levels. Even keeping our loved ones at home, it can become next to impossible to give 24X7 care.
