I first thought you were having a go when I started your slide show (starting in the 1800's) - but yes quite a few of the later ones quickly came to mind, some like yesterday unfortunately.

Absolutely brilliant find, and yes I do remember the supports of the Effile Tower going up, as it was my dads birthday and we all had a great day.

 In 1880? Quite a memory.

Just watched a doc on SBS about the Titanic. Apparently had a fire in the coal bunker for 3 weeks prior to sailing and was still not put out for two days after sailing. They claim it weakened the Waterproof bulkhead to such a degree that it burst when the compartment in front was sliced open by the iceberg.

Twice I've been to the Eiffel Tower & both times the top level was closed. In 1975 the lifts were broken & we could walk up to the second level which I did with my dad. The second time I chose to walk down from the second level & got down quicker than others waiting for the lift. My Sister has been there 3 times & the top level evades her!

I believe it is currently closed = covid, but was before due to cracking of some support beams not far from the bottom of it. When we were there back in 1880, we rode their on our bikes. And as you all know, I am still riding bikes, I have never been able to take to those newfangled horseless carriages.

Riding bikes appears to increase lifespan!

General Custer with his friends in Peninsula, Virginia, 1862. Anyone's guess which is Custer.
