Some largely unreported figures we should know

This is largely unreported as as opposed to the meatworks outbreak of a couple of months ago.

So who are the people who refuse to be tested?

I dont know that anyone has refused testing from that cluster.

Do you have further information?

Hi All, the Al Taqwa figures were reported almost every night on the channel 7 news in Vic reporting on the increase of cases nightly. As to whether anyone refused testing in that case, have not seen any mention of that.

I was aware of it from other sources but I have not heard a single mention of it on ABC radio news which is where I get virtually all of my Australian focused news, this is in sharp contrast to the meat works outbreak for example... however this choice by the ABC not to report doesn't surprise me. "Their ABC".

We are currently based in N Qld and to my knowledge did not hear anything of this cluster in any of the news services.

As Magnarc said the report was at least on the local Ch 7 which is good as the locals are aware of the situation.

We are currently hearing on a repetitive basis of the plight of the people in the Towers which is obviously better news for the media to perform their beat up of a situation.

What I personally find interesting are the actual figures and how in a week the cases went from 1 to 90  in 8 days. If for no other reason, a nationwide news report would be advantageous to all to show how quickly this virus can spread with a perfect example as illustrated in the news report.

I would like to be able to follow the outcome and the success of control in the school but to this moment I have not seen another report.

I personally am aware of the situation in that Victorian college because every day I get my updates from the "News" app on my apple devices - all media outlets  TV, news services, print etc. are included and you can set up favourites for the ones that you prefer. Admittedly some provide only headlines and require a subscription  (like the Daily Telegragh) but most of them are free.

Heres some numbers not being reported that I'm more concerned with -

Number of overseas travellers arriving in Australia in the last month -

Total- 72,000

Sydney - 39,400

Melbourne - 15,300

Brisbane - 10,500

Perth - 5400

Darwin - 960

Adelaide - 680

Canberra - 310

More than 2000 positive tests have already been reported in NSW from these arrivals and that number continues to go up every day (another 11 yesterday), well over 1/3 of the people currently isolated in Sydney hotels are from other states which NSW foots the bill for..We have already seen what happens when people who arrive are mismanaged - the more loaded that a system is the greater the risk of it happening again. The federal government knows the risk and is currently looking at distributing the load more evenly across all the ports of entry as well as cutting back on the number of flights being allowed into Australia. Gladys has said that she is also going to start sending the bill to non NSW residents for their 14 days accomodation.

Hi BB,

Is that the news when you swipe to the right on an IPhone that features headlines of news services?

Those numbers are certainly of concern BB.

We just had our neighbour come over for coffee and he said that it was reported on Ch 9 this morning that the school outbreak above had a direct link to the tower that is now in lockdown.
What a shame it got into a school in such large numbers, my neighbour indicated that the school number is up to around 120 today.

We all need to be so careful.

I can't see the app on my iphone Angie but it comes preinstalled on an ipad or an imac - looks like a red N on a white background and says news when you drag over it.. Good for keeping up to date with both Aussie and world news as it includes 7news, 9news, SBS, ABC plus all the Aussie papers.

Cheers

Yes BB that appears to be the one although it is on my phone which is a 7 plus.

I need to pay more attention when it comes to technology. :)

It is good to have some information available as we make this move from the print media to an electronic source.

TV reports and services are next to useless in my opinion.

Your most recent post is interesting with the Qld and Vic figures which have come through NSW.

NSW have obviously done reasonably well with containment and isolation before releasing those people to their respective states. There would be figures of some coming through at least from Qld and Victoria and being isolated before being sent to NSW so I suppose there would be a final balance sheet to tidy it all up.

Lets just hope these figures remain contained.

OMG,
From BBs recommended and my new found app, the Age is reporting 288 new cases in Victoria today with only 26 being able to be traced to known cases.

This appears to be getting very serious.

I hope all Victorians stay safe, stay at home and do what is required.

Did you also read the report Angie that the Vic police have fined 16 people found in a unit a total of $26,000 for holding an illegal house party ? The report says that someone in a KFC store overheard 2 people order 20 meals, took their number plate and reported them to the police ?  What is it going to take for these idiots to get it into their thick heads that they are putting everyone not only themselves at risk...

There is no doubt that some NSW residents would have come through other airports and Im sure that Gladys would have to take it off the bill - apparently the states have an agreement on who pays . no

Where are all these people coming from? I thought the PM told overseas travelers to get home in March cos our borders were shutting to everyone.

If they are Aussies who went on holidays since March, they should be paying for there own quarantine at a hotel.

Is the Government thick or something, we just can't keep paying out, lock the country down completely.

Cheers Bob

Bob they shouldnt be Aussies who went on holidays since March because people leaving Australia on holidays was banned. i was in isolation in South Africa in mid March when I got the word that I had  to get back here before international flights were stopped. At some cost and a lot of mucking around I managed to be able to do so before the end of the month. After 3 months i reckon that most of the people returning are living abroad and are only using their Australian citizenship or residency as an insurance policy. I work reguarly on projects in differnt countries and from the people I meet this practice seemjs to be pretty common.

No I missed that report as Rob and I had to head out to help a friend celebrate her birthday this afternoon.

I am becoming familiar with the new found app so I will try to keep up with all the latest news.

Obviously there are groups that just dont care or do not realise the repercussions of their actions.

i personally think that a fine is just not enough to make these groups realise that this is serious. I just cant see what else may be done short of incarceration for these fools.

It was two ambo's who dobbed the idiots, but no kudos to kfc for selling twenty meals to 2 idiots.
There were over 30,000 returning " aussies" last month (June 2020) alone, bound to be a few infected.

Coronavirus cluster at Melbourne's Al-Taqwa College grows to 113, but how it started remains a mystery:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-09/al-taqwa-college-coronavirus-covid19-cluster-melbourne-truganina/12437584

What I don't understand is how all those other schools (in NSW) which reported COVID cases managed to stop community transmission within the school. What is so different about Al-Taqwa College?

It appears that for those huge numbers it could only be a lack of reporting the illness or the majority of school parents teachers and associates just have a care less attitude.

Maybe federal and all states need to resit their parliaments and pass urgent new laws to permit authorities to deal with these types of situations so as to prevent these types of things happening.

As the school is a private entity, will they receive huge fines similar to other entertainment venues and workplace businesses who do the wrong thing?

I am also suspicious as to why these figures werent reported publicly and nationally by our mainstream media when the cases were only in single digits.

Good point Craig but these places employ a lot of young kids (even the store managers) and if there is no KFC policy on it they may have been afraid to challenge customers in case they lost their jobs  - then again maybe they just thought that these guys were panic buying KFC in case they got put into lock down..hmm

Yeah Dave I get that for some, but 72,000 a month is a bit over the top, plus I thought Qantas etc had stopped flying................not sure how many people actually fly in and out in normal times.

Every state has Richard Craniums but it would appear that here in Vic we have more than our fair share of them.
