Hi All - Just looking for some feedback re my wind-out awning. It's 4 metres x 2.5 metres reach, with a vertical support at each end, which is attached to guy rope. My question is, with the addition of a privacy screen along the 4 metre length, is it advisable to add an additional vertical support pole in the centre? It is a Thule Omnistor 4900 series, and does have a roof tension pole horizontally. Any thoughts or recommendations would be much appreciated.

I've never owned a Thule unit, but l have on a past van had something similar with a "C" section beam.
I think the 4 meter section may bend if you put to much tension on the privacy screen ground ropes so a middle pole could help prevent it. I see they sell one so maybe it is required.
Alot of it depends on what wind level you want to risk. The unit l had was not good in anything more than a light breeze so anything stronger l would pack it up.
Hmm ? I run my privacy screen on an angle . I have 20mm X 300mm or so angle iron Pegs to hold down in windy conditions . Mine is 7m long . I could use posts from annex ? But as said the angle outwards of approx 45% doesnt pull too hard on main shaft . IF anything it helps .
I have the same awning, although mine is a lot smaller at only 2.6m long and 2.0m reach. I have the Thule side rafters each end, the Thule tie down kit, and C-gear front and side shade walls. With all this up it's rock solid. The box section on the front edge of these awnings is pretty rigid, but if you see any sagging with the extra length of yours then I'd say yes, an extra leg in the middle may be a good idea.
