Swap engine / gearbox or put my cabin / shell on the other chassis

Gday everyone. Just wanted peoples thoughts on my options. I have two civilians both 88 models. One is ED33 which I have 90% finished my fit out on the inside and done all water tanks and just put new tie rods and king pins in. The other bus has the ED33T engine and 6 speed trans to match. It's just a bare shell. It's either I put the ed33T and gearbox into the fitted out bus or unbolt the shells from the chassis and swap them. Engine and gear box install would roughly be 4k to do. Not sure if swapping shells would be expensive. Thoughts? Cheers Mick

Speak to a specialist in bus repairs local to where you can get the work done. I am certain that it would cost much more than $4K to remove two shells and swap them over - I believe you would also need to remove some of the work you have done in fitments to your original unit.

Hey tuggersbmx, as a ex farmer jack of all trades l have done both body and engine swaps. I carnt contemplate paying someone to do it but l think a body swap is by far the more difficult. If you have managed to get a quote for engine/tran swap then l would do the same for body swap. One thing you may have overlooked is the diff. I would also recommend you do some research into the diff ratio in the turbo 6speed v's non turbo. It may be different.

Engine swap in truck type bodies is much much easier. Swap or fabricate Crossmember bolted to chassis frame or weld to existing . I find if you keep to same brand . Its amassing how much they keep the same profile . The 4.0V8 Lexus for example fits snuggly in 89Corona crossmember ., That Xmember was fitted into 76 Celica .  Mix and match !
