Yes, bloody cold over in Tassie. We even had snow in Launceston, and one of the distribution centre out near the launceston airport had it's roof cave in due to the weight of the snow on the roof. Main central highway near Baghdad was also closed both ways due to the snow.
But the days are fine and sunny and quiet pleasant, its the wind that goes right through you. Time to stay inside by the heater !!
It isn't registered here, in our area, but the last time I camped on the junction of Laura Creek and Gwydir River, it got down to minus 7 , and I was fishing at the time on a creek pool between 12am and 4 am, and watched as the pool gradually froze over, in mid June, ( Milo, gave up at 1.30am, and headed into his sleeping bag in the open tent) and I absolutely love camping in a tent in that weather, if anything the colder the better, I must be mad. Would love to live in Tassie because of those temps.

We spent approx 18 years touring north America in our motorhome/s. Mexico to Alaska. One night in a small town in Utah we got down to 12f. 20f below freezing. Our motorhome had a block heater which I failed to plug in. The engine simply would not turn over in the morning because the oil was so thick. I couldn't roll up the water hoses. One owner of a bus conversion had made a campfire the night before. When it has burnt down just to coals he backed the coach up so the engine was over the coals. He had a huge smile on his face in the morning as he waved to me as he departed the camp ground.
Anytime I think it's cold I think of that morning!!!
On a holiday in England it was 7°C & I was frozen to the bone. A week later I was in the Black Forest in Germany & it was -12°C & I was walking around with shorts, teeshirt & sandals, I even had to take my shirt off as I was too hot!
It all boils down to humidity. In England you could cut the moisture in the air with a knife. In Germany the air was so dry that you couldn't get cold.
