our heater is round 6 years old just lately it starts up and runs as normal , once it gets to set temp instead of just backing off the fan blows faster and it runs cold for a short while and turns itself off. It wont restart as temp drops you have to turn it off at the controller and back on then it runs again . Never been serviced b4 .
I would be very surprised if a service would fix it, to me its more likely to be an electronic control/thermistor ( heat switch?) problem and could be terminal. The problem with these type of heaters unless You can fix it, its probably cheaper to buy a new unit.( if it was a $300 Chinese heater maybe not for an Eber)
The Australian Distributor of our Heater is knowledgeable about the heater he sells and others, if no answer here I suggest you ring Oz heater suppliers re your problem.
All the best, Lets us know your Fix

Most likely burn chamber has carbon buildup
Unlikely to be any electronic problem or terminal. What you describe as your problem is common.
Strip and remove carbon from burn chamber. Ensure you have replacement gasket and glow plug mesh.
Cheapest place to buy D2 service kit is Dave Butler who gives excellent service www.butlertechnik.com/eberspacher-d2-airtronic-heater-service-kit-292199015407-p1695
Worth it to get the depth tool for glow plug screen mesh then next time buy glow plug screens from eBay.
Be VERY careful removing glow plug as they are brittle at any time and worse with age.
The Chinese diesel heater parts are interchangeable with the Eberspacher, except for the electronics.
