Perth woman jailed for breaching WA's COVID-19 quarantine laws

Quote

A 28-year-old Perth woman has been jailed in what's believed to be one the toughest penalties handed down for breaching Western Australia's COVID-19 quarantine laws.

The Perth Magistrates court was told she had an exemption allowing her to fly to Perth, but had been informed she would have to quarantine in a hotel for 14 days at her own expense.

She was arrested more than a week after arriving in Perth, and has spent the past fortnight in quarantine in custody.

She was sentenced to six months in prison, backdated to the day she was arrested.

She'll be eligible for parole

It just goes to show that some people are very selfish

If she was a (unknowingly) carrier of Covid-19, how many people could she have passed it onto, during her week of freedom

Edit to say, that instead of flying to Perth, she had a truckie smuggle her to WA

Is anything going to happen to the truck driver? Or is he exempt from prosecution because he is stupid?

Hi Kebbin, I was wondering that myself, as the article I put up, was very thin concerning the full story

This link to the article below, says that enquiries are ongoing

And this link to this article below, says that the woman has a criminal record, that was related to "a meth habit" but that she no longer used the drug.

Well hopefully she won't be using it for six months.

The latest news, is that the lady is appealing her sentence

If she wins, then I suppose there is no longer a deterrent, not to sneak over the border
