Hi everyone, just joined to be able to ask questions.  I'm hopefully buying a caravan (inspection scheduled for next week) and I'm a total noob.  The forum has come up when searching for information, hopefully the knowledgeable will be able to help me out with specific information I can't find online.

I'm in the west and we have been very lucky to have the freedom to move about, relatively normally.  I felt I should go somewhere to help out our rural tourism businesses and I'd had a "bucket list" want to go up there so I went up north to exmouth.  The huge difference in price between caravan park camping fees and paying for a room ($200 vs $30/n) made me decide to camp in a tent (it's a long way, too far not to stay a reasonable number of days to make the drive worth it).  It was comfortable enough, but very windy so I didn't fire up the camping stove I took with me, and I'm a bit decrepit and get very tired so putting the tent and bits and pieces up for just one night would be impracticable, hence thinking a van would be good to make short trips somewhere.  I have a menagerie, but I can save money on kennels if I take my dogs with me.  I took them with me last week down to Mandurah for a couple of nights, we stayed in the tent and they did very well. It is a bit restrictive having them always there, but it was also a good incentive to give them plenty of activity (and consequent increase on my own).

There's a lot to learn and the forum has already been a good source of information.

cheers

Welcome to the gang hufnpuf, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I won't hold it against you being free over in the 'wild west'. I know many people over there.

It's good that you have found this great forum handy already. Do searches fir things you want to know or just read through a couple pages of each section. Some great stuff to be read and I tell you that for free.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Hi hufnpuf, I think you name describes quite a few of our age
When searching this forum I always find it best to use this format "inurl:thegreynomads.activeboard.com inspection"
This tells the search engine to only search in Grey Nomads for posts with inspection in them (leave out the "")
This yields a lot more answers than using the search function on the website

Enjoy you stay here and your trip up north

Cheers, JeffRae

Thanks, JeffRae, it seems that search format only works with google?

I've already had my trip up north, it was great, it's lovely up there and it wasn't that hot. If/when I get this caravan, I'll just go somewhere not that far, in case of "drama" before I venture further afield.

A warm welcome from me also, hufnpuf

Ask as many questions as you like, there are a lot of helpful, and friendly people on this forum

None of us, knew everything about caravanning, when we first started out

Hello hufnpuf, After your comment I tested Bing and DudkDuckGo. Works with both those search engines as well

Thanks for the welcome Tony Bev, and for the info JeffRae. Must just be my computer. I'll give it a go in a different browser, have a fiddle, see if I can get it working.
