Caravan Compressor Fridge

On the workings of a compressor fridge is a plastic reservoir located on top of the compressor which catches the condensation.

How necessary is this plastic reservoir or can I extend the pipe to the outside?

It will evaporate the water, in the scheme of things it will extremely marginally cool the compressor. It will only have some water in very high humidity conditions & if you open the fridge a lot. Probably not worth the effort putting a drain in, but if you have reasons to remove any water it's not going to do any harm.
