Truma E2400 electrical Fault question

Howdy all, our delightful E2400 unit seems to have an electronic failure.

Gas, Exhaust/Inlet piping all OK and clear of spider webs etc, main fuse in line with power supply cable is OK, and Oh Yes the outside cap is off, no problems with just recycling air, but as soon as the dial is rotated to any of the heating settings a single fast red LED flash happens and then nix.

The Tech Specs and trouble shooting reckons that is because it is either over or under the range of power supply voltage

Gas Techo checked for both Over and under voltage problems and supply fits well with in the range specified. He reckons that some where in all of the electrickery boards (yes there are 2 of them) there is a fault.

My question is, would a Mobile Electronic type techo be able to trace the matter down?

If so does anyone know of such a person in Adelaide?

Is there not an agent in Adelaide, a caravan sales/service company? Nothing in your handbooks? Or have you looked in the Recommendations Tab in this forum?

With the aid of the internet, there should be many techs who can assist.

Oh! I should have added that ALL Caravan repair places in Adelaide have been contacted and say that they are way too busy to take on new work until the New Year, plus the search for this on this forum has several references to the Truma E2400 but NO reference to the problem in any of them. The best response was from CaraRest Supplies who put me onto a Techo who did a verbal process for me to follow and explore but that proved fruitless as all his clues showed no faults.

The Techo who did come and look was the ONLY responsive one from an internet search and then it took four reminders for him to attend.

Mind you he did apologise profusely and after his check over 1/2 hr. at $220 an hour call out fee, said all he wanted in return for his time was knowledge of what the the problem was to add to his knowledge bank. This I thought was super of him and would thus recommend him to others.

Have you rung Leisure-Tec in Melbourne? They are the Australian company that represents Truma in Australia - Phone: 1300 07 2018
Very helpful and prompt.

Hi Gary,
That sounds like something that should go into the Recommendations page!!

I assume someone has welcomed you into the fold - if not, welcome!
We're all here to learn of experiences good, bad from each other as we travel the roads.

Was the voltage measured directly at the heater input PCB when under load (ie trying to start).
It is possible that the voltage could be OK under no or light load conditions but drop significently when current flows due to volatge drop across a poor connection somewhere between the battery and the heater input.

Thanks for all the advices here. Leisure - Tec were happy to talk and guess who they recommended in Adelaide -----

Yes - that's correct - Manny! small world eh!

However due to COVID ALL repairers are flat out until early 2021, including Manny.

It seems the "Rich & Famous" all now want to spend their $$$$$$ touring our wonderful island and so have bought up nearly every 2nd hand van in Oz and want them repaired yesterday as is their way, cos they want to go now!

Oh! well! just as well it is coming to summer and the heater may not have to be used until next year!

Mobi, I realise you are talking about a heater but if it is any assistance to you, I had an electrical fault with a Truma hot water heater, (I know different item altogether) and it was diagnosed with a fault with the electrical board. The electrician that came to have a look at it, who is also a caravan owner, took the electrical board out and then put it straight  back in and that fixed the problem. He told me it then resets and voila.

Who knows.

Hi Mobi. Just to add to what I posted, when the HWS was not working I rang Truma and they told me it sounded like motherboard issues and referred me to their nearest agent. I rang them and they were busy for several weeks. They told me to get an electrician to look at it first as it might be simple. The fellow I used had fixed other things and just told me that all these things have a reset and he turned the HWS off and then back on. Nothing. He then did the take out and put back in and it worked. He told me whether it is a stove, washing machine or fridge, try that first. Great advice that saved me money.
