what system have you used to connect sat box to tv?

It's the 3 plugs system. All works exactly as it ought on every other tv we've tried it on and connected in exactly the same way.

doesnt rule out bad vidio port on new tv, try one of the other systems. Maybe just for ruling vidio port in/out hook it up via coaxial cable

We can't plug the coaxial cable direct into the tv. The coaxial comes from the dish into the Vast satellite tv digital satellite receiver then the receiver is connected to the tv. It's the way it works with every other tv we've ever used and with perfect results.

Tried HDMI and it doesn't work. The HDMI port is only for media storage devices. There is no picture or sound, nothing except the blue screen of death when using HDMI from the satellite receiver to the tv.

We were kind of hoping that someone with an Englaon tv would respond with their experiences of vast satellite through Englaon tv.

the coaxial cable i am talkijng about is the fta cable, that can also go into your sat box and then to your tv, I sugusted to use it because it is the simplest system and not elecricaly connected

Hi Missfiggy

I am wondering if you may have mixed up the 2 very different analogue inputs.

There is usually an AV input using a yellow socket for the video, a red and white sockets for l/r audio

There is also a component input which used a red, a green and a blue socket.

The two types of input are not compatible with each other and may explain why you see what you see.

The online specs for the TV indicate it has 2 HDMI-Inputs so if you connect an appropriate cable you need to select which input is being used or you will only see a blue screen.
HDMI are standard inputs and will accept a signal from a satbox.

No - we haven't mixed anything up. We used the av inputs on all 4 tvs that we tested with. The only one with a snowy screen was the Englaon. We have been setting up these systems for over 5 years and never had any problem until this Englaon tv. When we used the HDMI we selected the correct HDMI and only got the blue screen. The HDMI inputs are only for components. There is no HDMI input for av on this tv but we tried it anyway ... to no avail.

Englaon are based here in Vic their phone no is 03 9877 7318 but, sadly, they are closed till 9..00am Monday 4th.

Hello missfiggy,

I was looking through a manual for an Englaon TV. On page 17 of the attached there is reference to NOISE REDUCTION which may effect the quality of the picture.

This setting can be altered, may be worth a look

Yes - we have spoken to their people. Their command of English is not very good.

We have now taken a short video of the screen effects and sent it to their service person(nel). Hoping to get some sort of resolution on Monday.

TV out of the box should have worked without you messing around so assuming you have selected the correct input via the Input button on the remote, or the menu, it should have worked with both of this selections New TV on the way perhaps.

Nah ... rather have a refund and buy a different brand that we know works properly. We'll see what happens on Monday.

I think you are using the USB not HDMI. HDMI is not for media storage devices.

We know the difference between usb and hdmi. And how each should be used.

We were really hoping that someone with an Englaon would have some insight. Unfortunately most of the replies have been guesswork.

Perhaps, but I'm using a hdmi cable between my SatKing vast box and my relatively stupid TV with perfect results so I would think it very unlikely that a nice new smart TV can't do the same. Also works between my laptop and my dumb TV, and between my laptop and my daughters very smart TV More likely that you have missed a setting somewhere in the numerous rabbit holes in the non-intuitive smart TV settings controls

As for all our pathetic guesses. Given that not a single person has the misfortune to buy the same TV you did, I guess we should have all shut up and left you to it.

Perhaps I'm not using the right search terms but sounds like hdmi is for video and audio, not data - and looking at the back of my vast box, it is USB ports that are provided for connection of storage and hdmi for displays. Hard to believe that your TV doesn't follow the same system

Yep - we have discovered that no-one seems to own an Englaon. We were highly dissatisfied with the picture and sound from our RVMedia tv. And since it died after only 18 months, we thought that we would try a different brand. Sorry.

And as stated above, our satking vast box provides perfect picture and sound to every other tv we have tried it on - so we do know what connections go where since we managed to achieve a picture and sound on 4 other tvs.

After 4 days of doing different tests - including driving out to where our van is stored to connect the various equipment to the caravan in the configuration we would normally use - we have ascertained the following:

1) TV and vast box both on 12v battery - cigarette lighter plugs into matching outlets on van
- Picture good

2) TV on 240v/12v transformer, vast box on 12v battery
- picture snowy

3) TV on 12v battery, vast box on 240v/12v transformer
- picture good

4) TV and vast box both on 240v/12v transformer
- Picture snowy

It appears that the TV transformer is the problem when the TV is connected to the vast box. Now not sure whether there is an instinsic problem with the transformer which was supplied with the TV. Will get this tested.

This information may help someone else in the future.

No led lights where we have been doing the testing. Englaon techs still totally confused about what's causing it and offering strange suggestions in almost unintelligible "English". And disagreeing with the evidence of our own eyes. Becoming ridiculous now.
