Crochet rug project

Hi, as most of you know I regularly crochet tartan rugs and donate them to a local nursing home.

I have finally completed the rug, started during bush fires on Kangaroo Island in January 2020. This tartan is based on the Buchanan Clan colours.

While house sitting in Airley Beach, I was fortunate enough to spend some time with "Tina" a resident in a local nursing home. I originally offered her the rug, but she suggested that "Jean" might like it, as she is always cold.

Two weeks later, I returned to the nursing home to find sadly, that "Jean" had passed away. The nurses were aware of the project, an suggested instead that "edith" might like the rug.

We went and spoke with "Edith" and her son and D-I-L, told her our story, and "Edith" happily took my rug, which perfectly covered her bed.

So now I think this year, I will crochet something for myself, as soon as the weather cools down a bit.

Update:

Email received today:

Hi Lorraine & John,

Clarke and I would like to say a very heart felt thankyou once again to you both for your beautiful blanket you donated to our elderly aunt Enid recently at the Proserpine Nursing Home.  Enid got to enjoy the warmth for a few days before she found peace on the 26th February aged 91 years.

We displayed the blanket over her coffin and everyone was overwhelmed by your handicraft and sincere generosity you share we have now passed this blanket onto another person with your story so they too can enjoy at the Proserpine Nursing Home.

Thank you once again and enjoy your travels,

Such a beautiful rug ...

A great skill you have, but even more beautiful & praiseworthy is the gift to to these Ladies in their final stages of life.

My Niece crocheted a man coloured rug as a 60th birthday present for me & I still treasure it almost every day, more than 20 years later.  In summer I use it as a throw over for my leather recliner & in the winter it is a leg warmer rug .. as I nap in the same chair.   She & my sister crochet lots & lots of beanies for certain hospital patients.

It's a wonderful thing that you do.
