This river in Canada is now a ‘legal person’

Could this happen in Australia? Has it already happened? What are the implications?

This river in Canada is now a 'legal person':

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/4/3/this-river-in-canada-now-legal-person

"Indigenous communities are leading worldwide push to recognise legal 'personhood' rights of rivers, lakes and mountains."

New Zealand river is the world's first 'legal person':

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/3/16/new-zealand-river-is-the-worlds-first-legal-person

"Under legislation passed, the Whanganui river has been formally declared a living entity."

I had a dog that though he was a person. So will our pets also be recognized as 'persons'. Or should they be recognized as 'theys"? BTW. My dog was smarter than many folks I know so he could be recognized as a they but not as a person. Or am I confused? We cant use mum or dad now. Or mother or father. So am I a Grandthey? Is my wife also a Grandthey? So that brings us to God. Is he a he or is he a they? And was it's his Son who was crucified at Easter or was he also a they?

Happy Easter.

Allow me to set the record straight, bgt.

Being male, you would be the Grand Non-Gestational Parent, whereas your wife would be the Grand Gestational Parent.

Can't understand why you'd be so confused...

A f'ing lot of crap, as is most of the current PC stuff ...

For fear of contravening Forum rules and risking upsetting others, I won't mention my views on all of the various 'rights matter', 'Me too' & 'custodian' stuff.

cheers ... from a WASP male

I'm not sure you're allowed to say WASP? It may be speciest?

Edit:

Although Spiked is UK centric this article fits Australia very well:

Spiked

I think that's both racist and speciest!

And now deadiest with luck. We just have a few that drink from the bird bath and one was hanging around when the lunch lamb loin chops were ready to come out from under the Weber. A big burst of insect spray gave him an awful headache, but not the most efficient of safest way me thinks.
