Iveco daily 50c18 2009 model battery change?

Hi,

I have a Winnebago on a Iveco Daily 50c18 model truck and the battery has died.  Iveco has quoted me around $700 for battery and acid which seems excessive to me.

Does anyone know if I can use a replacement battery and what it is, brand & model no.?  Also the negative terminal is easy to remove but the positive looks complicated so any advice on that would be appreciated.

The dimensions of the battery are roughly 340 long x 170 wide x 210 high.

Thanks Brian

What is so special about their battery? Go to any of the good battery replacement places and see what they have. If you can jump-start the vehicle then take it to them and they will replace the battery for you. They may even instruct you on the correct method of removing and replacing the positive terminal. If you do experiment with the positive clamp, make sure you remove the negative clamp first.

"What is so special about their battery?"  I dont know.  I used to drive trucks and I am pretty sure I never paid that much.  Thanks for the advice.

This is what I posted some years ago, everything Iveco is a rip off:

We have a 2006 Winnebago Leisure Seeker based upon an Iveco Daily 50C17 HPT. The starting battery recently decided it was time to go. I phoned the local Iveco service centre and was quoted $480 (without acid!) and approx $100 to fit it and they would throw in the acid. The Iveco battery is custom made by Exide and I was assured that no after market batteries existed......not true. The Delkor 125D31L is very similar in specification 760cca and 95AH (also 160 RC) in comparison to 800cca and 104AH, the Delkor is 44mm shorter and a few mm less in height, importantly the Delkor battery has side ledges on the long side so that the tie down system requires no modification. The Delkor battery is low maintenance Calcium technology in comparison to the original unit that required maintenance and leaked electrolyte. The Delkor battery was $198 including GST. It was a simple matter to fit, taking about 30 mins. For those in South Australia these batteries are available from "SA Battery Sales and Recycling Pty Ltd" on Pt Wakefield Rd Gepps Cross. Phone 83595030 they even took the old battery away. The service in rapidly obtaining the new battery was excellent. Highly Recommended.

The same as a very expensive Land Rover battery. Peel off the "engineered" sticker & surprise surprise, it is an Exide!

I bought a replacement Varta Silver battery from Batteries Direct plus a few other things over the years.

Actually I still have the now 8 year old Exide & use it for testing & have jump started a few cars, lent it to a neighbour for same reason, but I am happier not having it in the outback.
