To be or not to be

Hi! there everyone. I am a newbie. I am in the process of selling my home and " hitting the road". I turned 70 last year and decided that life was passing me by. A lifetime ago I had the pleasure of a solo life on the road for, four years, then life got in the way. My question is this - at 70, am I whistling-Dixie, thinking that I can return to that way of life?  It was the happiest time of my life. My mobility is not what it used to be and have a couple of health issues - not at all life threatening. What do you reckon "am I too old". Thanks for any input. A couple of factions in my life think I am out of my depth. I have ordered an Isuzu D Max Ute and a 18.6 On the Move, Off Road Van.

Welcome to GN's Gaye, How long is a piece of string? Only you can determine if you are able to hit the road footloose and fancy free, mobility, affordability and determination are the factors that will come into play - not age, some people are old at 50 others young at 90.
I hope to see you out there somewhere in the great backyard.

Welcome to the gang Gaye, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Possum is right, it all depends on you. I am giving 70 a very strong nudge and I tell you that for free. I traveled for 8 out or 12 months for three years after becoming solo since 21 years old after losing my better half. Mmm? Was I that young once? After three years I decided to sell up base camp and get what is in my signature below and be a full time Grey Nomad.

I have met heaps of great people and made many friends from here and as I move around. The only problem I am coming across now is health and the medical mob. Things are not as easy and take time. Covid has caused us all many dramas and as GN's things can get difficult but can be sorted.

Covid has also seen a greater number of people moving around with with BIG rigs and in many cases not a lot of knowledge of this life style IMO. I tend to keep my distance when possible on the roads. I am no expert, far from it but you learn as you go by talking to others and paying attention.

So, do I regret what I did and do after now 9 Years? NOPE!

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

We have been on the road, essentially full time for 15 years. Walked out of the house leaving all the stuff inside and dropped the keys into the estate agent as we drove out of town. The house has been a nice source of extra income for all of those years. Plan was to keep travelling the world as long as we were enjoying it and as long as our health held up. Now 75 and moving back into the house only because Betty has a progressive mobility issue that is getting too difficult to manage even in a large motorhome. So I'm glad we didn't sell up and drive off into the sunset because renting a house and setting it all up would be a real pain.

Wow Tony, that's quite a story.

Well done for having the guts to do it.

I hope you enjoyed your travels.

A warm welcome from me also, Gaisie

I know that there are a lot of people, who have sold their homes, and are on the road full time

I speak only for myself, a slight medical hiccup during the last month, has seen me visit the doctor, 3 times

The tablets prescribed have been knocking me around a bit, and I appreciate that I am at home, and not on the road

Thanks to one-and-all. Unfortunately I am unable to afford to keep my home AND, have the nomadic lifestyle so the decision was made to sell and hit the road. Now, it is just a waiting game, bring on August, see you on the road. Thanks, Gaye

It is said that we get 3 score and ten years. Anything over that is a bonus! Do what you want that you can afford, can cope with and respects the rights of others. Go for it!
