We've stayed in Blackall a few times, usually at the CP in the middle of town where we have enjoyed happy hours with all the normal bush poets et al.
Got a few photos of The Black Stump situated next to a back fence of the local High School (I think).
On our first visit we enjoyed a tour of the Wool Scour that had one section working. Not sure what the current situation is. Noticed the yabbies or whatever in the boiling hot water of the original bore outlet.
Had a childhood mate & shooting buddy who lived there for many years before sadly passing away a few weeks after our last visit.
ps. Don't get stuck on the free camp by the river near town if there is rain about. The black soil quickly turns into slimy sticky mud, giving the local tow truck a windfall ... and doesn't he know how to charge .. or did several years ago.
We enjoy a stop off at Blackall. Except perhaps, for the smell of the hot bore water. Nice stuff after it cools ... no smell & great taste. Like most bore water. As I recall the old town water reticulation went straight to the hot water taps & a feed took it to a cooling tank that (often gravity) fed to the drinking water taps.
