I have my FD33T engine in my civilian with new turbo and it's running but very underpowered still. Took it Berrima diesel they tried tuning it/ adjusting fuel pump screw but no matter what they did it would not run any better or even run worse. They have said the pump needs an overhaul or get a new one.
Bloody hard to find a new pump though! Besides buying one from overseas for 3k.
Does anyone know if / where I could find a pump?
Or anyone that overhauls them and what it should cost?
i had a 3.3 ltr turbo diesel in a patrol getting spare parts for the fuel pump was extremely hard to source. wreckers where the only place an then you would hope you where buying something in better shape than what you all ready had
Not sure about lift pump. I'm not that good with fuel systems. I don't think none of the rest has been done as Berrima diesel just tried adjusting screw on pump and could get any outcome. I pick it up on Monday and taking it to cooma diesel in fyshwick. They are specialists in this field.
There is no separate lift pump as it is inside the injection pump. Sounds like the apprentice looked at it. Just saying it needs a new pump because they could not adjust the screw to get a result is BS !! Did he spend half an hour trying to find the place to plug in his computer ?
Take it to a proper shop where they know about these older mechanical pumps. I would think in the worst case it could need to be rebuilt but they can go OK for a long time if there has been good filtering and no water gets in the pump. But proper testing will be needed to determine what is the problem and what the actual state of the pump is. Or if the injectors are OK too and the boost controls etc.
Guessing has not got you far ahead so far ?? Find an older diesel mechanic who knows what he is doing and does not believe a computer will fix it ?

I took it to Berrima diesel because it was highly recommend. Seems like they are not as good as people say. I've spoken with cooma diesel over the phone for about 15 mins and they are professionals in this field. He has stated that they will carry out some diognostics to figure things out and go from there. I honestly don't think I'd need a full on whole be injection pump.
I drove it too Berrima and was getting constant 6psi up hills and top speed of 120kph and was keeping up with all the other big trucks on the road. I'm wondering if it should be running much better? I would think I should see 10 psi under load?

i my case with the 3.3 turbo diesel the spare parts where not available to rebuild the injector /fuel pump. if you had access to a machine shop you could possibly manufacture new bits then it would become a labour of love, anything from the wrecker was in hope of making one serviceable unit out of many scrap ones

Mate if you can do 120 and keep up with the big trucks then you are doing extra well now !! You must have forgotten how a standard ED33 Civilian did go. I remember going up the long hills, down a couple of gears at 40-50 Ks grinding away, just dreaming of a turbo and power !! I cannot remember ever doing 120 as I never found a hill steep enough !

PS I find it hard to believe about the lack of spares for injection pumps. Yes sure not available in Australia because they do not care here about the old stuff. I have just bought a seal/gasket kit for a Bosch mechanical pump from a place in England. I found the correct number on the pump(lots on there) and looked at there site information listing to determine the correct part number for my exact pump model and ordered a genuine kit. Arrived last week.
Just for information my pump started leaking from the gaskets. I believe due to a bad tank of contaminated fuel but I refilled with quality fuel and it dried up and is now good after a few tanks and a couple of thousand Kms. Hmm !! But I bought a new kit to redo the pump if I find it necessary, using the theory if I have the parts I will not need to do it; https://injectionpumps.co.uk/

Might I suggest that if you can reach a speed of 120km in an old bus that has a 3.3 litre diesel engine,you're doing well? Waaay back I had a Nissan Patrol with the 3.3 litre engine,and it was as slow as the second coming.Good luck,but I reckon you're pushing it uphill.Cheers

Hmmmm. Maybe I have forgotten how the ED33 did go haha. I do remember just hating hills. BUT....why would there just be NO change (better or worse) when adjusting fuel screw?
I would actually be pretty happy if mechanic said that's it...she's fine and that's the best it's going to get. I just want piece of mind knowing.
I don't think I would buy a new pump knowing it might not get any better.
Cooma diesel is going to do a compression test and inspect pump and other diognostics for $400. That will tell me a lot more.
Picked up my bus today, started to drive home and whatever Berrima diesel did made it bloody worse! About 40% less power. I stopped after 30 mins and wound out one of the fuel injector pump screws which helped a bit but along the way home this time the big trucks were flying past me. Could get up to 90ks max.
