Introduction of cylinder quick-connect device (Type 27 valve) As of 1 October 2021, existing LP cylinder POL (Type 21) fittings/valves will be gradually phased out on leisure cylinders (nominally 10kg or less) and replaced by Type 27 quick-connect device valves with an external thread. The new valve will be known as the Leisure Cylinder Connection Type 27 valve or LCC27. These new valves wont allow gas to flow when the valve is open unless the gas connection is made, and will reduce the risk of potential gas leakage and gas safety incidents. The matching pigtail connection is referred to in AS/NZS5601.2 as a cylinder quick-connect device. The below table sets out the transition timeframes for these changes. For guidance on acceptable materials to be used between the cylinder and regulator for piping systems in caravans and boats, gasfitters must refer to Table 5.1.4.3. Note: Adaptors to convert a Type 21 to a cylinder quick-connect device shall not be permitted.
Prohibited cylinder connection methods AS 2473.2 Valves for compressed gas cylinders, Part 2: Outlet connections (threaded) and stem (inlet) threads is a secondary referenced
Thanks for putting up that interesting information. I have not heard about it
One point though this sub forum is not commonly visited by most people. Would it be better to move it or repost in the main Technical forum, or even the General forum as it would be something most everyone would need to know about sooner or later
the change is not gradual at all! It appears to me we will not be able to buy type 21 (POL) gas cylinders after 1st October 2021 ie. less than five months! This will be a major problem and there will be many who are not able to change their caravan fittings by then I suspect.
Good catch Tony.

That an existing POL fitting on an appliance (your caravan is an appliance) will fit the new LCC27 valve on a gas cylinder. Why didn't they just make that crystal clear on the press releases?
Edit: typo

Sorry for the false alarm. The link was posted on an overlanding site and nothing in that advisory even hinted at any sort of backwards compatability.
I did wonder at the handwringing and hair pulling that would be happening at swap N go if it was a completely new system
Guess it could be a safety device similar to the ones on US cylinders which are also POL on the inside thread.
Yes, now that I see the drawings, it is identical to the American system, specially designed for those who can't handle left hand threads.
Wonder if the new bottles will be fitted with OPD - overfill protection device - while they have the chance.
