My ZTE Blade V7 Android handset is dual SIM and works well.
There are a number of variations on how the phone handles two SIMs - clearly it cannot receive two calls at the same time - and you'll need to Google these variations.
My phone has two SIMs installed (Belong/Telstra and Optus) but only one can be active so in order to use SIM B I must shut SIM A down first that's simply a limitation of my particular handset.
As I live on the road I find it useful to have both Telstra and Optus, although Telstra has the better *overall* coverage there are many country areas where Optus is superior.
A downside with my (and most) handset is that by having two SIMs installed I cannot install a memory card but I find the phone's internal memory to be adequate.

My google phone has only one slot, but Google have an electronic SIM so the phone can easily be switched from the local telco'physical SIM, and the Google one.
Some users have separate data and phone+data plans so that would be one reason to have a dual sim phone. Others might live in a town that is not served by telstra, but needs telstra for the rest of Australia.
Does anyone have a dual SIM phone that monitors for both incoming networks? It would be possible to switch between the two SIMs quickly enough to monitor both and then lock the phone to the active SIM when an incoming call comes in.

I have a Huawei P30 Pro dual SIM phone. The last with the Android OS.
Both SIMS work all the time. When I make a call, it asks which SIM to use. or I can set it to always use whichever SIM was used for that contact last time.
If I'm on one call on one SIM and another call comes in from the other SIM it pops up as call waiting. I then have the option to hangup my first call and take it, or put my first caller on hold, or send the second caller am SMS or just send it to voicemail.
So, PeterD...Yes, it monitors both networks.
And, yes, I have two different plans, with two different providers, both active at all times. I've also set it with two different ringtones so I know which number the call is coming in on without looking at the phone. If I don't wish to answer it, I just turn the phone over and the calls goes to voicemail,
One last feature is, If I'm on one call, I can put that call on hold and dial another and speak to each individually or, bring the first caller into the conversation for a 3-way conference call. So, yes, I can use both SIMS at the same time. I've never actually used that function yet.
