Been a while since I had my eyes tested, so I rang Specsavers and booked in, taking my old broken specs with me. When I got there I was greeted by a very nice good looking young girl who was to look after me.
After all the tests etc she sat me down to discuss the new frames I wanted. Then I showed her the damaged ones and she said wait a minute and took off. A couple of minutes later she came back and said try these...she had taken the old lenses out and put them in a new set of frames that she had out back. Now that is what I call good service .
As I was about to leave I asked her for the old frames back so I could keep the old screws in case I ever needed them later on.
She said We have plenty of screws in the store and we dont charge for them
I almost cracked up....but left with a smile on my face
I don't use Specsavers for Glasses But there prices and service kill the opposition for hearing aids. Well worth going to see them if your in the market. Landy

I was very disappointed with my last eye test done at my local Specsavers - I had (which I didn't know at the time) the start of a retina detachment, they didn't pick it up. I finished up in the Melb Eye and Ear Hospital for 2 rounds of emergency srugery to reattach it. I emailed them, not a complaint, to let them the outcome as a learning for them and never heard back from them. I guess that is me done with them
I have to say I wasn't overly impressed with their service....after an eye test they prescribed glasses for me that simply were not helping. After a couple of visits to correct the problem I was no further on so I went to OPSM who did another test which revealed I had cataracts that glasses could not help.
I have since had surgery and Ocular lens replacement so no need for glasses any more.
I had my eyes tested and 2 pairs of glasses made up by Specsavers a couple of years ago, a few months later felt I was not seeing as well as I should, visited OPSM who confirmed the prescription was way off, not at all impressed.
As far as hearing aids are concerned, recently had hearing test and aids supplied by Hearing Australia, didn't cost me a red cent, cant get much cheaper than that.
A few years ago I had OPSM sort my eyesight. One eye was good with the new specs, the other way out. They found a decimal point in the wrong spot in the prescription. No negative from me, human error slips in occasionally.
Now using Specsavers.
Happy with both companies. Being able to use Specsavers for both eyes and hearing could be convenient for some.
I'll be sticking with local optometrist, after 20+ years we have a great relationship. My photo-chromatic, multi-focal lens are Australian made and the frames I choose are often Australian made. The cost is fully covered by my private healthcare insurance. Most, if not all, of the big name players are not Australian whether franchises or not. I understand if you paying out if your own pockeg

Wife got tested there, went and picked up new glasses and was told " don't wear these home, only a couple of hours a day for a fair while until you get used to them" I did the chewie and told them to have a refund cheque waiting for us the next morning or else. I had been wearing glasses for about 55 years at that stage and had never heard of such B S.
But not to detract from OP who had a great result.

Did you read my first post to this thread? really cant get much cheaper than that, unless you expect to be paid to have them supplied and set up.
Unfortunately Santa to the best of my knowledge I do not qualify for any hearing aid consesions.
I went to three other well known hearing aid suppliers before Specsavers and Specsavers basically halved there prices for their top of the range home brand hearing aids.
I have no connections to the company and posted several times on this forum looking for advice before I started searching for a hearing aid supplier. Just a very happy customer letting others know they are well worth a look before spending your hard earned somewhere else. Landy

I went for reading glasses, as I thought that the ones I had, were no longer working
They picked up that I had bad cataracts in one eye, with the other eye not far behind, and refused to sell me glasses
They made an appointment for me with a local eye specialist, and I had the op on both eyes, (one at a time)
I will now go back to them annually, just for the check-up

I notice that the standard hearing aids at specsavers were (about) $1,400 for two, while other sellers were (about) the same price for one, if this is not a misprint, then they are half the price

Not a misprint Toney and Bev I did ask the technician what the difference was between there home brand and the recognized brands they were selling, as the spec sheets were identical. Answer none exactly the same hearing aids, some people are just willing to pay more for the the brand name is what I was told.

Over the years we have used most of the common retailers including Sppec Savers. Gave them the flick because of the poor customer service of one particular employee. The glasses were OK.
The most recent ones we used were Oscar Whylee & we chose them because we were on the way to OPSM but the escalator to their floor was broken so we dropped in to OW which BTW was almost next door to a Specsavers shop.
OW picked up an abnormality in one eye & referred me to an Opthalmologist which was good.
On our private heath cover we each get 2 pairs with no out of pocket each year (readers only with no 'special' coatings). Happy with the choice of frames at OW.
On the subject of hearing aids, a couple of years ago, after a shock at the asking price for a pair at a local hearing centre, I researched the subject and found that Costco offered the best deal and a choice of manufactures. I decided not to get the aids at the time but I know that I will have to eventually do so. If you are in the market, check out Costco.

I need reading glasses. I have been buying those cheep ones at the $ store but thought because the govt is demanding I get an eye test to drive I would take advantage of their offer of $200 towards my glasses.
Anyhow, passed the qualifying test to not need driving glasses but I am more comfortable with what I see with a weak prescription. All fine.
Then I said to the person fitting me that I really need glasses that allow me to read the GPS and Speedo as well as the roos and emus in the distance. One pair of readers and one pair of drivers was suggested. Totally Useless for my issue. They said bi-focals would cost me another $100.
They didn't mention that you can get graduated lenses that would have solved the issue really well. One pair of glasses, look up to the top of the lens for seeing the roos and down to the bottom of the lens for the GPS. Went back when I heard about these and asked why they didn't suggest them and could I get the lenses changed? No.
I had made enough of the issue when I first went there. No answer other than I didn't mention them and they cost more money. How could I? I didn't know they existed. If something solves the issue then I am quite happy to pay for it. I just walked out and won't be going back.
MSG, I had exactly the same problem, I have mounted our rear view camera monitor in place of the interior mirror, and have a GPS near it. Explaining the problem to the guy at Sec-Savers, he set about fitting me with glasses that had a focal length taking into account the distance to the monitors and driving vision. I had one pair done with a very light tinting for day driving, and a second pair, clear for night driving. These are not bi-focal, or gradient. I never drive without wearing them, less eye strain.
The one mistake I made was to allow the girls to choose my frames, I should have gone with aviators, to hell with what they look like.

i had the same problem with glasses looking out front then down to the dash my eyes would be out of focus as i uses to drive a variety of vehicles it was difficult tried multi focal lenses they made the problem worst as you had to bob your head to make them work then to look in the mirror was even harder . best solution was a set of bifocals set to focus at arms length(distance to dash) work out real well
