Due to an increase in traffic crashes involving caravans and trailers, Police from the Capricornia District have undertaken training in conjunction with Transport and Main Roads in utilising vehicle weighing devices.
Police are engaging with all drivers, to inform them about correct weights whilst towing caravans and trailers and assist with driving safer!

Excellent proposal, but authorities need to go a step further, and enact a law that would apply the same rules to light vehicles as apply to vehicles with a GVM over 4500kg.For those unfamiliar with this law,any PIG trailer that is towed by a vehicle that has a GVM over 4500kg MUST always weigh less than the towing vehicle. This is fir SAFETY,and is designed to minimise the chances of the "Tail wagging the Dog".Unfortunately,at present,Ma and Pa Kettle can retire, buy the flash twin-cab ute with 6000kg GCM,hook up the flash 3500kg ATM van,and hit the road. Not only have Ma and Pa Kettle never driven anything bigger than a Corolla, but they now have 6 tonne monster under them, with the trailer weighing at least 25% more can the car! This is an accident looking for a place to happen, and is an exercise in stupidity,as ALWAYS the weight on car wheels should be AT LEAST 10% greater than the weight on the van's wheels if safety is of ANY concern.Safely tow 3500kg PIG trailer with typical twin-cab ute? Can't be done.Cheers
I wonder where they are, I havn't seen any on the Bruce Highway between Mackay and Proserpine, one trip last week there were 70 to 80 vans/camper trailers/ motorhomes traveling north in a little over an hour, so that could equate to as many as 350 to 500 movements a day on the Bruce Highway. One wonders what the traffic is like on the other inland northern routes.
At the CP we are bunkered down in, the daily movements in and out is 20 to 30, like today there has been 9 moving out and 14 are booked to arrived, the free camp in town is full, and the low cost camp at prossy dam has big numbers in and out.
The item to which I referred was that Capricornia Police are now doing extra training to carry out more roadside testing - It will mean more Officers are aware of "over-loaded" rigs and have the means to do more roadside testing.

Why do you suggest that this "Subject" should have "went" (gone?) in an area that I suspect is seldom accessed by many? Surely it is better here, or maybe in the "General" forum? Just saying.Cheers
