Tv voltage drop

The Teac tv drops the battery voltage from 13.3 to 12.4 when switched on at the set, should it drop nearly 1 volt? It has always been connected via 12v socket. Only the tv, vast box etc do not drop the voltage at all when turned on individually. Thanks for all and any help Bas

I assume the tv uses a largish amount of watts but for anyone to answer they would need to know this amount and your storage capacity.

 I agree.

TV wattage?

Battery AH?

Battery age?

Wire length?

Wire cross sectional area?

That should narrow down the problem solving.

Hi all; My own tv and vast receiver draw 3.6 Amps when turned on ( 50 Watts ) and on standby 0.8 Amps ( 11 Watts ) this is with a terminal battery voltage of 13.8 Volts. With the solar input into the batteries the voltage increases to 14.6 volts, so the current draw would be a little less.

Our fridge at 4amps (48watts) while at he compressor is running the voltage drops about 0.2 volts. Running off 4 batteries, but they are only 26AH each.

Things are not gelling here or me. The 13.3 V indicates that there may be a battery charger on float here. A battery at rest would not measure over around 12.8 V. The 13.3 V is also a bit lower than I would desire for a float voltage.

What is your battery? (type and size.) What is the make and model of the charger and is it switched on during the tests, You are talking about battery voltage, are you actually measuring the voltage at the battery terminals or close to the TV?

Disable any battery charging that is there if you have solar or a 230 V charger running. Do your tests again. It could be that the battery charger is acting when you draw enough current to run the TV.

Peter, not sure of the OP's battery set up but mine has battery voltage of 13.3 at sunset. TV, fridge, lights and diesel heater for 5hrs in the evening and at sunrise there has never been less than 13.0 volts. Only use solar charging. We have been home for a week now and the battery is still holding 13.3 volts with everything turned off. System is 3 years old now and unchanged in that time.

My TV which is a Smart 32 - 240v with its own inverter !! I have just recently changed the 12v side to its own Anderson plug, 6mm sq cable . The sig type plugs are too flimsy seem to have bad connectivity! Since going direct to batteries with larger cable ! My reception, TV is working fine ! Even though my volt meter reads there was plenty of volts !! It seems it needs all the power possible !! The booster is on seperate loom so no chance of radio interference, or voltage drop !! Either way I fixed issues . Being it was booster or TV inverter issues or both ? The larger Smart TVs are 240v at present . Aha . Or maybe its just Ive had second vaccination ?

I was originally running my fridge via a 12v outlet. Typically up to 3.8amps while running.

The socket & plug had a good connection but it was getting quite warm.

The problem was at the back of the socket. Being pressed metal it was too thin & had extremely poor contact. So I replaced it with an Anderson plug.
