Why? Surely vaccines are like beer, where any beer is better than no beer! All this hype about one vaccine being better than another has only been brought on by the unqualified rubbish sprouted in the press, and on social media. The chances of dying in a motor car accident are infinitely greater than the chances of dying from a Covid vaccine. Some people need to grow up.Cheers
My understanding is the MRNA Vaccines (Phizer, Moderna, etc) are more prone to causing Ischemic cardiomyopathy (a condition when the arteries that supply blood to your heart muscle become narrowed). This is not a desired indication for the elderly

The question should be moot, since over 60s have had plenty of time to be double vaccinated with AZ. If you've been holding out for Pfizer or Moderna, then why should anyone care?

If your GP considers it would be wise for you to have a vaccine other than AZ I have no doubt one will be made available to you - like most of us you do not have the knowledge to decide which vaccine is best for you, people who do have such knowledge have decided AZ is good for over 65s, I'm happy with that and have suffered no ill effects six weeks following my second AZ shot.
This morning I read a comment to an Age article regarding covid vaccination which suggested Medicare funding should not be available to wilfully unvaccinated people who contract covid... I have some sympathy with that view.

A mate 70+ had his first AZ shot last Wednesday after seeing his doctor, and on Thursday South Ozzies can now book for their Pfizer jab, he's disappointed. Had a sore arm and headaches the next day.
Do you really think think our health professionals made this decision based on the amount of taxes you pay?
If they gave Phizer to over 60s and there were complications, youd be screaming the Gov dont care about the elderly.......just cant please some people.

Would you believe UNSW? If so go to their website and read what they have to say.
I suggest ignoring that UNSW link. There is no date on it and it appears to quote efficacy results (trial) that are way different from reality. The word Delta does not appear in it, and the verbage suggests it predates any vaccinations. It is probably from last year and well out of date.
@Brodie, your complaint about age discrimination should be balanced against the fact that the elderly were prioritised in the earlier rounds of vaccination. If you weren't happy with what was available, then there were many who would have been happy to take an AZ jab, if they had been first on the list. As for being more readily available, the government recently bought Singapore's almost expired Pfizer vaccines on a swap basis, so it would seem that Morrison is taking whatever he can get.

In SA at least, over 60s can choose the vaccine they wish to receive, as long as they get vaccinated at an SA Health clinic.
I would have thought similar choice would have existed in other States.
What and where was the report you read? The information I quote is off of the SA Health Covid site.
As an aside, my wife, our sons, one in his 40s and one in his late 30s and myself are all vaccinated with Astra Zeneca, 3 of us fully, and younger son will be mid next month. Our sons chose the 70% is better than 0% position, and we were happy to get vaccinated ASAP, as an adjunct to our health care with flu vaccinations etc.
Sometimes I think, and this is NOT directed at you Brodie, some use the choice argument to hide a desire not to get vaccinated, which is their decision as I have noted previously.

The point of my post is to see if anyone knew of any reason why oldies CANNOT get any vaccine other than the AZ.
Rubbish.
This is what you said in your OP:
----
Just reading a report that over 60's will still not have access to either
Phizer or Moderna when both vaccines will be more readily available in a couple of days.
It's maddening, and age discriminatory.
Even a note to my Members both local and Federal have not replied.
Time we rose up - anything for oldies - we don'r pay taxes any more.
But we bloody vote!!!
A thorough kick in the guts for us Nomads!
----
Nowhere in there do you pose the question "Why?".
Rather, you are clearly angry and resentful and I strongly suspect that is because you are an AZ wimp fretting it's going to give you a blood clot.
Stop wittering and get the damn vaccine man!
Maybe we could question the last word in your post,Mike? Some people like to bleat and moan about anything. For heaven's sake, just take what's offered, and get on with life. The 12.26pm post by "are we lost" may take a bit of wind out of sails of the moaners.Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.Cheers. (And I've had both Astrazenica shots.Drove 600km shortly after the first, and went straight to pub after second.)

What is your reasoning for for this rant ?
Or are you listening to wrong people or using social media, because there is nothing wrong with AZ Both my partner and I along with all our friends have had the AZ jab with no sside effects.
If some of you don't have anything productive to say why do you insist in displaying your difficulties with comprehension?

The PM makes much of it in his dalliances.
No thanks to the usual drogue from yobarr and Wanda. And dorian? Lost you in irrelevance.
Thank you msg 'n Possum3.
The reason maybe because its payback. for not taking up the vaccine when first offered and hanging around for the pfizer. Maybe he's blaming over 60's for putting program behind and everyone yelling at hm.

Can you not just be thankful that there is ANY vaccine available to you? Perhaps your two doctors AND your chemist know more than you? Time to take a happy pill, and settle down,me thinks.Cheers
Yobarr, Will you please back up your arguments with a verifiable source. One that answers Brodie's question and not turn into abuse just for asking a question. Where in the medical journals ATAGI, TGA say that AZ is the better option for over 60's. It doesn't. an answer that says it is preferred by Govt, The only one available or in short supply does nOT say that it is the better one of the three options for over 60's.
Yobarr, what is the truth. Back it up please with a verifiable source. no name calling or abuse.

There is no arguement here,so I have no need to "back up your (my) arguements with a verifiable source".Some members display an alarming inability to analyse a post.Nowhere in this thread has Brodie asked a question, but you will perhaps notice that he has spent a lot of time denigrating fellow posters who dispute his convoluted views.Back to the drawing board,me thinks! Cheers
OH,and by the way, there is no such thing as "better one of three options".Good (1),Better(2) Best (3 or more).Hope this helps?

Ahhh some have too much time on their hands ! Just get vaccinated . Then we all get better 6G ! Is it past 10am ? I can start another conspiracy! Sheesh
First off I am double vaccinated with AZ having taken the view that the best vaccine is the one available now.
That said, I would have liked to be given the choice, not be barred from that purely due to my age. In any other circumstances I am sure that the anti discrimination commissioner would have something to say.
