Diesel Heater fittment

Hi all, just wondering if any body knows of some one who can fit a diesel heater into a Campervan here in Townsville.

Have you given some thougt to doing the install yourself and then maybe an electrician to wire it all up. They really are not that difficult, even youtube has several videos to follow.
Would save a few bucks
Just another idea, but I do understand if you prefer not to attempt yourself

Thanks for the quick reply Ian, and yes after watching many videos on youtube I can see they are pretty easy to install but I'm not really living in a place that allows me do it very easily and also having a dodgy neck and back I don't want to be crawling under the van to sort things out. I have found someone that can do it for $500.00 which seems a bit excessive for something that should only take a few hours and only cost me $150.00. to purchase. Guess I'll just keep looking, Thanks again

For a competent handyman with the right tools to hand, good weather and a caravan you have previously cleaned up and prepared for the heater installation I reckon it would take around eight hours or a little more assuming there are no issues specific to your van. So let's say 10 hours including travelling time which equates to $50 an hour which is quite reasonable.

I suggest you insist a switch is installed, in a convenient location, in the feed from the battery to the heater and that you switch it off when the heater is not in use - the displays used in the heater controller "wear out" when they are powered up.

I had mine installed in my motorhome by the dealer I bought it from. Roughly 8 hours.

No problems
Give some thought to where you put the controller, nothing better than just reaching up to switch the heater on "before"getting out of bed on a freezing cold morning!
cheers
Ian

Hi Wanda, we laid about $500 to have ours fitted for similar reason to you, For the most I thought it not to bad a cost.

May I suggest to you to have a larger wire fitted from the battery to the heater unit, the reason being ours was great, no hint of a problem then when we needed the heater the most it failed. The fault was tracked by me to the main feed wire which I have enlarged, put a switch in the line to turn it right off when not really using it.

The main feed line had heaps of insulation but no copper wire and it was not good enough to heat the start up glow plug.

I learnt all this from the friendly forums.

For the money you will never think about it when you are comfortable in the warmth of the heater.

Most of last week it was +1C outside most mornings but +20C inside :)

Blessed be the Diesel Heater

Good on you Mike, this is the first time that I have read on any forum, someone stating a more accurate time for installing a diesel heater. Most answers say a couple of hours. Stupid.

I am a retired tradie and I took about that long or longer over two days to install mine. All takes time to check in and under the van, cut hole, paint edge of cut floor, install heater, run fuel line, install tank, fit exhaust to specs (most don't and wonder why there are problems ), fit inlet, run wiring, etc, etc.

There is a lot of bending and getting into small spaces, takes time.
