Well purchaser would be expecting a return for their expenditure.
It is mentioned that site data / usage is valuable to caravan park owners - ie it has a commercial value. So access to this data is one thing that could be sold.
Or maybe it gets advertisements is an obvious one.
Could even be unique ads / offers to traveller's in certain areas - in real time too.
Anyway if it goes bad for users , I'm sure there are competing free apps
and as a IT person it would be possible for competitor app top appear, main problem is to populate with useful data.
Providing bettor support is mentioned, this has to be paid for so $ will need to come from somewhere ...

Time will tell what it means but it's hard to think there won't be changes which may be a good thing.
I guess part of the issue is their business model; a one-off purchase and then free for life, they'll be big income early on then a tapering off to a small income which is not an incentive for the developers to maintain the product.

The business model isn't that flawed - as it is a per device "Membership" - with the modern trend of using multiple devices, upgrading devices, the minimum cost of reloading on a new device has a potential to garner more business.

No, it isn't Possum.
It's a buy once *per platform* - I, legitimately, have Wikicamps on 4 or 5 Android devices but have only bought one copy. In the extraordinarily unlikely event I were to buy an Apple device (temporary insanity perhaps) then I should have to (re)purchase Wikicamps for Apple and the same with Windows devices.

The old adage is true - "when you assume, you make an Ass out of U and Me" - I just bought a new app when I bought new phone, didn't even consider retaining off old phone. For a tight-arse like me, that's unusual wasted nearly $10.

The following is for Android but I imagine Apple is much the same:
When you buy a new handset or tablet register it with Google using the account/e-mail address you used with your previous handset. Google will then see the new handset as a second device on your account (I have about five) then when you go to Google Play there is a facility to list all apps. in your "library", any app you have previously paid for will be available for you to download free of charge to your new handset/tablet, some paid apps. (Igo Navigation) may take 24 hours or so before they fully recognise the new device but be patient and all will be good - most apps. recognise it instantly.
I'm not sure how you managed to buy Android Wikicamps twice? In my experience Google will not let you buy an app. twice from the same account so I wonder if you set up a new Google account with your new phone? Much easier to keep the same account and e-mail address.

With Apple, you go to the App store and under 'Purchased' are all the apps appear that have been downloaded under your ID or name.
If it not on your new phone, there is a little cloud with a download arrow, you can have it on as many devices that you want for the one cost.
IMHO WikiCamps is an absolute godsend for the traveller/camper.
The miserable lifetime cost amazes me - I would happily pay 4X or more for the facility and a yearly fee on top of that.
It saves me a huge bucket of money since I free camp mostly and it is so easy to find a site without having to waste time and gas and even then ending up in a not-so-great spot.
