Just do it. The worst that can happen if you are travelling the main highways is that you might spend a few extra nights in camp if there is a road closure due to a downpour. You will love it. Heaps of great places to camp, many for no charge and lots of great people, both locals and fellow travellers. Scenery, just unbelievable!

G'day Ole Grizzly - Agree with DMaxer. Just ensure you keep an eye on the weather channel as you will be heading into cyclone country at the peak of their season, a pop-top would sail away like a kite.

I guess it depends what you want to achieve.
This will be the most uncomfortable weather of the year, but that is OK. Used to be called suicide season in Darwin. People do live in these conditions. :)
Bear in mind that many/most tourist facilities and many camp grounds will be closed, so you should plan ahead. Booking may not be required though 'cos there won't be a lot of other travellers on the road which is a distinct plus. It used to be that the only tourists travelling at that time were European who had no choice when they took their holidays, but covid will mean they are not about yet.
Seriously high temperatures can put extra strain on your tow vehicle, especially the cooling system and tyres, so make sure they are good.
Personally, I would plan to be up north after the wet has well and truly started.

Alice Springs will be hotter than Darwin. I lived in Darwin for 10 years and loved it. The build-up is on now and its oppressive. It is much hotter than the wet season. And its humid all the time but you will get to experience the storms. . Wet season is fantastic It doesn't rain all day, every day but when it rains it could go on for several days if youre lucky enough to get a monsoon. Many tourist attractions are closed but lots still open . Be prepared for a cyclone to occur anytime but you will get a min of 2 days warning I have mates who just go fishing during cyclones but they are crazy . I planned to pack up and head inland to escape them but never did. I got smashed by tc marcus. An experience ill never forget . I cant comment on wa but they get more cyclone than nt My advice is to do it and enjoy the experience

OK, thanks to Tony & Bev, with SoloMC and earlier contributors, we have decided to wait with foot on the brake until the Wet really kicks in.

Do remember in my many younger years (Military) for 18 months in Vietnam where clothing grew mold, and brass went green and being a young bronze Aussie sort of too busy to worry about it...LOL Drank heaps amber fluids though.
