Nomading during lockdown - howzit work?

Hello, Im super new here - and we are just renovating a bus to live in full time. We are in Melbourne ans hoping to get far out of the metro area 'go bush'. What has been your experiences of using caravan parks for facilities, and also being in lockdown in your vehicle? Is it the same as being in lockdown when you are housed? Are there special places to park up, or caravan sites that allow extra long stays if a lockdown pops up again? I know these questions might seem a bit daft, but I guess you dont know what you dont know! Thank you in advance for any info you offer :) MM

If you go remote water is always what you run out of first. We are only in a car, 80 L is our upper limit & each use 2.5-3.0L a day. We are experts at not wasting a drop.

We grind our own coffee beans so don't go without, so make sure we have enough beans!

OK, this is my understanding. But could be corrected.

If a lock down is called you either stay where you are till it ends. Including bush camping. However early on some camps did get shut down, so you got kicked out.

Or.

You get 48 hrs to go home.

But.

Some CVP kick you out unless your full time in the van/bus. Or working in town/local.

Confused now? Lol

Mary, welcome to GN's, The best thing about being in a bus is you can park it anywhere without being moved on by Boys in Blue. Free camping is the go (for us) although we do have a caravan with all the bells and whistles. We have been unable to travel interstate since March last year - so we have wandered around NSW. the longest we were camped in one spot is six month's in local showground due to Wuhan Plague - police monitored us and a few others that were caught up by travel restrictions. Fortunately we had a great place to ourselves but they locked off all the facilities other than dump-point and water. Council came weekly to mow the lawns, it was like having our own country estate.

We are told, in Victoria, there will not be any more lockdowns?

I live in my caravan having sold my house and thus am classed as "itinerant"; I spent all of the lockdowns simply rough camped in the bush mainly on the bank of the Murray River. As an itinerant I was excluded under the health regulations from the requirement to return home, others had to leave their camps and return home DEWLP and Parks Vic patrolled and kicked people out. Being out in the bush I hardly noticed there was a lockdown, I went into town once a week for supplies and potable water and otherwise just did my own thing.

Caravan parks were compelled to close during lockdowns and kicked everyone out with the exception of permanents, itinerants and essential workers.

A bus will limit the places you can reach but there are still a lot of lovely spots you can get to, buy a copy of Wiki Camps for your phone and you'll find plenty of places.

All good advice BUT, nobody mentioned ice cold beer, you can survive for weeks on that whether you have an emergency or not.
