I didn't bother checking in on that one Wanda but more than likely the argumentative Xspurts were out and about as well as the protesters, causing the thread to be deleted.
Keep safe out there.

thanks, went out to dinner, came home and it was gone. Thought I might have had tooo many Shiraz, NEVER!

I don't have a problem with the thread being deleted, it was getting pretty volatile.
Sherro achieved his goal, it was obvious from the start he was spruiking his message to a largely unreceptive audience, once he had everyone stirred up he was able to take the high moral ground claiming victimisation, then flounced out acting highly offended, I've seen similar behaviour in the past, some people love the limelight.
Caused quite a stir for a member of 13 days standing.

Well... aus.politics has always been a bear pit but it has been around for 30 years and is probably one of the longest running "forums" on the net in Oz.

I think he was probably a good bloke who didn't want the hassle - I can understand that.
Not everyone relishes having to defend themselves and/or attack back every time they post.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one Mike, I see people of his ilk as a big part of our problems in society nowadays.

Sherro made some very serious claims. He was asked, several times, to substantiate these claims with evidence. In particular, his claim about mercenaries being used by Vic police was shown to be false, and his claim that 10 protesters were killed by police was repeatedly avoided. Ultimately he conceded that these deaths were only "supposed".

As I predicted in the now deleted thread, Kyle Rittenhouse is now perceived as a hero to many.
His lawyer claims "They want to trade on his celebrity and I think its disgusting.
This whole deal will turn into a circus.
From the Australian.
Riot gunman Kyle Rittenhouse overwhelmed with job offers
Before Kyle Rittenhouse shot and killed two men and injured a third during a night of civil unrest in Wisconsin, he had expressed an ambition to work in law enforcement.
Now that he has been acquitted of murder, he is being offered work in politics.
Several Republican congressmen have sought to offer him a post as an intern apparently with an eye to his emerging status as a hero for some American conservatives.
Overtures have come from Florida congressman Matt Gaetz and from Paul Gosar, of Arizona, who said on Twitter that he would arm wrestle (Gaetz) to get dibs for Kyle as an intern.
Madison Cawthorn, another congressman on the right of the Republican Party, has made a similar offer.
Mr Rittenhouses lawyer, Mark Richards, condemned the overtures.
He told Business Insider: They want to trade on his celebrity and I think its disgusting.
Gregg Keller, a Republican strategist, cautioned in Politico against lionising a teenager who went to Kenosha with an assault rifle hoping to take a stand against disorder and protests against police brutality. Conservative commentator David French said making a hero of Rittenhouse risked more bloodshed. Youll see more foolish young men try to emulate his example, he wrote in The Atlantic magazine.
I can't help feeling that Rittenhouse used the excuse of protecting businesses to try out his latest gun purchase. There appears to be no decency left. Then again, I'm not a United Statesman so I don't know how they think.
Is it a case of hitting the overpopulation stage, like rats eating each other in a sealed silo when the grain runs out, where so called humans can't tolerate others and start killing? Like that fellow who drive his SUV through a Christmas parade.
Somethings go to give and it seems like anarchy has started.
I can't help feeling that Rittenhouse used the excuse of protecting businesses to try out his latest gun purchase. There appears to be no decency left. .........
Why would you make such an unsubstantiated statement like that when there was no evidence of such? In all cases he was trying to escape the aggressors. There is no doubt he has a strong community spirit and has volunteered hundreds of hours to help the community.
How many 17 year olds do you know that do that? If you did know someone, how would you feel if people who knew nothing about him made unfounded accusatory remarks?

I think more importantly, why would any 17yr old be walking around during a protest/riot holding a loaded rifle.
Surely your just asking for trouble, which he got, what sort of society condones that?
He was only one of the volunteers who risked their safety to protect property against the arsonists and others intent on causing malicious damage. The owner of the car business they were protecting put out a call for help after 2 car yards were burnt out and trashed the previous nights. Apparently he received 5,000 responses and 1,000 who comiitted to turn up. No reports on how many actually did. Was it a wise decision to do so? Probably not. I wouldn't, but many did and put their lives at risk for community benefit.
Had he not been armed, those intent on hurting him would have done so, and he probably would not be with us today. I would say that would be a great loss.
One to which a significant portion of the world's population aspire to migrate to.
Have you lived in our even visited America Wanda?
And to expand on Mike's theme .....
A society that has far more national pride than Australia. A society that is horrified that cities can be looted and burned while law enforcement stands back and allows it to happen for political purposes. That explains why the communty is standing up to the lawlessness. Note that they weren't the ones breaking the law.
Don't try to compare the US to Australia. We have never seen the war zones erupt in our cities like they have.

A society of total contradictions. It is a society that is trying to eat itself.
For a country with so much, so many have so little.
It is a society where both sides of the political spectrum claim the moral high ground for the violence that both sides perpetrate on each other, in the name of freedom and God. With a few notable exceptions, the war zones they have seen in their cities have been self inflicted.
You say dont compare us to the US, and then do just that.
Unfortunately, too many in our country are trying to move us the way of the US now.
We have much to be thankful for living in this country. Fear the day when people can roam the streets during demonstrations, armed with guns and the like. That is not national pride, that is anarchy.

Surely the anarchy is the riot and other behaviour is a response to it?
This young man's actions do not surprise me; make yourself aware of the romantic enthusiasm with which young men volunteered to join the army in the two world wars and the eagerness with which women gave white feathers to those who did not.
America has many social issues but it has many positives too and those are always forgotten by people who wish to score cheap debating points.
America cannot be summarised by a 10 line post on an obscure internet forum.

I have absolutely no wish to go to America. I have seen and read enough over the years and although I have no doubt some of their country looks amazing we have no interest in travelling there, our choice. My wife and I are well travelled both here and overseas compared to most, very lucky. Once things settle back down we will continue to go overseas while young and fit enough to do it, but there are some countries we have no wish to travel, for our own reasons. Ian
PS: agree 100% with TheHeaths comment re America and comparing us

I agree their is much to like about the US and its achievements, but that doesnt mean the faults should be ignored. Cheap debating points apply equally in these sort of cases.
The riots were anarchy against the rule of law. No argument, and no justification from me for the riots.
The authorities are there to police and handle this. If it is not their job, then why have them and laws? It is not for private citizens to come and take vigilante action themselves. To allow that to happen is in my opinion a recipe for longer term disaster for the society. I am aware of the romanticism you mention, but the situation, times and enemy were very different. I doubt romanticism was at the forefront of this mans mind.
In the end, I cannot believe that 2 wrongs will make a right. Civilians on both sides of the political divide, confronting each other violently is not what we should expect or want for our society.

The better half and I have made many trips to the US, loved every minute we were there, some of our stays extended into months, the people, particularly rural people, are overwhelmingly hospitable, the scenery and infrastructure sensational.
You can't judge a country if you've never visited, the media reports we get in Australia focus on the sensational/negative aspects of America.
Sadly, no longer enjoy long haul flights, so we've made our last visit, if this were not the case would be back there in a heartbeat.

My wife and I have had several trips to the US and travelled extensively throughout (Florida to Alaska ) using rental cars and motels/BandB's/ cabins etc.. for several weeks at a time - (we have never "Booked" accommodation.) I can only agree with Santa's Comments. Easiest place in the world to travel with extremely hospitable people and scenery second to none........KB

As I said it was a feeling.
I've been to the USA a few times. Once for holidays and others for work.
Whilst in L.A. we went to a small, convenience store for some snacks. The next day we found out that it had been robbed that evening and shots were fired.
Another time, whilst visiting associates/friends in Washington DC, we were told, by the locals 'Don't run at the airport. The security guards will shoot you before chasing you because they are too fat.'. That's scary.
I certainly don't want to live in that sort of society. However, I have very good USA friends and they are very 'normal'. They are well educated, hate the gun laws and identified themselves as Canadians whilst travelling during the Bush and Trump eras.

At LAX early seventies, I was running late to catch a plane to Georgia. Being an Aussie that walks/keeps to the left, I ran in, the out side, of entrance - I was stopped abruptly by a .45 Automatic resting on my forehead - As soon as I opened my mouth with a few expletives, the Air Marshall said - "Oh! You're an Ossy - that's OK" - As I was sh1tting green and red lights. Long time before 9/11.
