Dometic RM2355 Fridge

Hello all,

If any of you have a Dometic RM 2355 three way fridge that has been idle for nearly a year and is not cooling down on either 240 volt or gas after more than hour what are your suggestions as to how to clear a blockage as this could be the issue.

It is not really convenient to hook the caravan up to the RV and take it for a drive, have any of you any suggestions?

Thanking you

Hi BC ,

The first very simple question,

Is it level?

I think you are expecting too much in one hour from a three way fridge.  Wait at least four hours.

Leave it running over night then check it.

To be fair with 3 ways refrigerators, a couple hours is  not really long enough.

Try overnight to really notice how cold the internal cooling finns are.

At Christmas we turned ours on one day to take the overload of Christmas supplies and next transferred the cold supplies up from our home refrigerator.

See how it goes overnight.

Very close to level.

As of 10.00 p.m. After being on for six hours freezer is showing 8.5 degrees, I wasn't expecting a rapid response but in the past it hasn't taken this long, the fins are not cold as of tonight.

Will leave on overnight and see, the exterior is very well ventilated.

Thanking all for the responses

I was in this situation a few years ago. I asked a refrigeration mechanic about the problem and he suggested that I remove the fridge, turn it upside down and leave it for a few hours, then turn it on its side for a few hours then try to run it. I did this, but sadly the refrigerant had leaked out and my fridge was dead. I could not see signs of leakage at the time, but later when I did an autopsy on it I found yellow stains in the area where the heating elements are inserted.

I hope this is not the case for you - a new 3 way fridge is horribly expensive. I looked into buying a 12 V compressor fridge to replace the old one, but could not find one which would fit into the hole without major reconstruction of the whole area, so I bought a replacement 3 way fridge. Thusfar, this unit has performed far better than the original.

Yes, I find our dometic is quicker to cool on gas.

If on 240 ours takes a good day 24 hrs for the element to get really cold.

Good luck with it brandchampion.

Cut a hole in the side of the fridge & install a compressor unit so you have every option.

As per other respondents, you need to leave it for a few hours - preferably with something inside. If still no response & if it can be removed, tip it upside down for a while (as per Erad's suggestion) - then restore it & try.
Mine didn't need tipping on its side.

Don't faint when you discover what holds it it!!
