Should this be allowed?

Soo,  unlike me i watched a commercial tv stn news tonight. Once again realestate makes the news. Oh no tenants will be permitted to hang paintings on the wall causing damage. As a result the poor owners will stop renting causing a crisis.   Horror,  shock horror.

Last week it was hurry up and buy if you can the prices are increasing. A while back it was hurry up and buy while its cheap. And so the weekly cycle of pushing up the price of property continues.

In my mind its clear this is paid advertising.

https://reia.asn.au/ and this mob will be paying for it i reckon.

Personnally, i believe the TV chanel should be forced legislatively to declare it for what it is. Or big fines.

And i could name plenty of other examples.

What do others think?

IMO it gets back to political parties dont declare where most of their donations are coming from.

All sides of Politics have sold their non-existant souls to commercial TV and Radio, and given them to your ABC. The last two Coalition Ministers for Communications would have to be the most ignorant Duds in a long time.

Advertising Fair Standards is only a front for Commercial TV also.

I had better stop.

You could post a complaint at:

Having said that, I haven't complained about the commercial TV stations not sticking to the advertised times on their Electronic Programme Guide. I hate commercials so I always record shows on commercial TV and watch them later. Time and time again, I've set a recording only to find that the previous show, usually some reality TV rubbish, has overrun it's timeslot and I've missed the end of the show I was trying to record.

Very easy solution extend to record time beyond the scheduled end time

I've decommissioned my recording gadgets. Only watch streamed shows whether FTA Catch-up or paid subscriptions. Wouldn't even know if the antenna is still operating either.

Having had some experience on how commercial television operates I am not surprised at some of their antics. First thing to bear in mind is that adverts are their life blood so they will manipulate regulations as long as the regulator does nothing. There are regulations that govern the amount of time that ad breaks can take up in an hour but, if they are not policed may as well not have them at all.

One of my pet hates is the crafty little ad or promo that slides across the bottom of the screen in the middle of a show. You are drawn to it because that is natural human reaction, so the reasoning is that it will get the message across. In this household all it does is ensure that whatever they are flogging is ignored. Shows that don't run to time are very easy to counteract, just set your recorder to start 5mins early and cut off 20mins late yes I did say 20mins late! I recently recorded a show that went 15mins overtime.

The ones that do this the most appear to be the home grown product, the likes of the Block, Kitchens that rule, The Voice and so on. Whenever there is a programme you want to see that follows one of these fodder for the masses shows, be sure to give your recorder ample time at the end because, nine times out of ten, you will need it.

I am waiting for some bright spark to invent a recorder that detects ads and plays some Count Basie for the duration that they are on. I will first in line for one!!!!

End of rant.

Just run a masking tape strip across the bottom of the screen.

I already set the recordings to be 5 minutes early and finish 45 minutes later and I still miss parts of the shows on those stinking commercial TV stations.

I have a Panasonic PVR and it has a"feature" that most times jumps the commercials when I press the >> button. That's fantastic when it works. Otherwise, I just double press the fast forward button to race through the ads. It also shuts up all that yelling the advertisers seem to like doing.

I have a Panasonic DMR-BWT460 Hard drive DVD recorder player. If i press record for the hard drive it will continue to record a program if it runs over time, & shuts down at the end of the program. All this while i watch another program.

That's how it works on my PVR but it all depends on the EPG and what I find is that many of the commercial TV stations don't stick to the EPG or they don't change the EPG when previous shows go overtime.

I don't mind adverts. It's the ones thet they try to make out as news. They should be forced to state in some form that it's a paid promotion. And I am tired of being told I need to run out and buy realestate. God, I'm sick of that.
