Dougwe I believe Craig has not specified what the remote was controlling, could it have been the remote for some kind of robot wife, they could have very complex moving parts.
Ha de ha Pete,
(No mute buttons need for 50 year partner)
but it was a replacement unit for main tv, and on checking records, the same brand killed the original remote. So a slow learner in my later years.
Found OEM batteries in 2 other remotes, one pair around 4 years old and ok, 2nd set at least 10 years old and still test fine. Both of these not used a lot.
We tend to frequent coastal locations so that could have contributed a bit, but we had to replace an expensive aircon remote because of corroded batteries, just on two years old. Since then, we remove batteries from all our remotes (aircon and TV) while the van is parked, out of use.
