New Project Renault Master Conversion

Hi all, first post here, you all seem to be friendly and helpful so no need for me to ask you to be nice.

Anyway we have just started the conversion of our 2017 Renault to what we hope will be a comfortable motorhome.

First major problem is the passenger seat. Anyone who knows these vans will be aware the passenger side is a double seat set up. The frame has no adjustment for height , lumbar or recline. We want to replace it with a single unit. Is anyone aware of somewhere we can purchase aftermarket seats from. The original Renault single passenger seat appears to be unobtainable in Oz. Not looking for anything super flashy, just something with a bit more comfort.

I have tried searching the forum before posting but I haven't come up with anything yet.

Any pointers will be appreciated.

BTW located in North Qld but happy to travel to get results.

Try Seat R us in Rocklea, they normally give direct answer, it is normaly yes available or no. Expect to pay up to $1000

Changing seats will require engineering approval.
1. Choose yourself an automotive engineer approved by your Road Transport Authority. They will have a list. Get him to look at the vehicle and advise on the mounting modifications likely to do what you have in mind.
2. After that discussion, go to your local wrecker and choose a seat that you like.
3. Fit it yourself or have someone fit it for you in accordance with the engineer's requirements. Surprisingly, the requirements are not usually too difficult.
4. Have him inspect the fitted seat and submit his report to the RTA and fit a Modification Plate to the vehicle.
5. The RTA may or may not wish to inspect the work. Probably not.

If you try to short cut the above you could get yourself into serious trouble. It usually does not cost as much as you may imagine.

If you do not do as Peter, above, has said, you are very likely to run into legal and insurance issues. Especially if you tried to onsell the vehicle with an "uncertified" seat or in accident with injuries.

By the sound of it, you are doing a full conversion, so wait until everything has been done (not just the seat) to get the relevant approvals.

Thanks Roger, Seats R us quoted in excess of $3000 plus fitting and engineering per seat.

Looking at other options.

Peter, yes I already knew about the engineering requirement but hadn't thought of picking the engineers brains beforehand. 

I may give that a go.
