I wonder will the car carriers operating on our highways here in Australia have to have a dangerous good permit and a suitably licensed driver to carry what appears to be a quite dangerous load with these new vehicles.
It appears to me that they that they burn quite ferociously.
Maybe they should be fitted with ejector seats and safety capsules for the occupants.
I wonder what peter n margaret will think about this...assuming he has time to read something that may not provide data that concurs with his beliefs, perhaps the article header will do it. Thanks for posting a clearly articulated and thought provoking piece.
It May cost a bit more from now on to insure a boat load of *planet savers* that will only end up as an artificial reef.
These were my thoughts until I opened and read the link provided by Mike H.
That article could be a complete topic on its own.
For those who read it did you note the bit about the lithium killing fish hundreds of kilometres away.
Well, that rules out that a sinking ship full of EVs will even be any value as an artificial reef.
For every solution there is always another problem.
I wasn't going to bother replying to this topic but someone keeps referring to it, so here goes:
The fire was put out before the ship sank,
There was no confirmation that the fire was caused by the EVs,
The mining of lithium is killing the fish not the car batteries,
Someone thinks that the Spike website is not misinformation? ,
If someone is so concerned about the lithium batteries then how are they reading this forum and unfortunately replying? and

The Spiked Network is a right leaning anti-environmental group pretending to be left leaning but funded predominantly by right leaning individuals and organizations. The group's motives are disruption of contemporary issues by.appealing to popular base thinking and the occasional heralding of political policies they actually support. It's an age-old political ploy both sides of the political spectrum employ.
These were the same batteries that power our computers and mobile phones, not EV batteries. It seems to me that we need to understand the dangers and learn how to mitigate or eliminate them.

For some years lithium batteries were restricted on air craft. Not sure what the situation is these days.
They build a special battery compartment in large aircraft which is vented via a large pipe to the aircraft exterior, they know fire extinguishing systems won't help in case of fire. After that it's get the aircraft on the ground as soon as possible.
Still restricted on aircraft.
Power tool batteries are restricted to two per person with the terminals taped and out of tool.
There is also a limit on battery output but I can't remember what that is.
Many common items are on the dangerous goods list and are restricted to road transport, at least in Australia. The risks and risk factors vary with each item type but are real.
Brodie Allen, I don't see an organisation that pretends to be something other than it actually is, as a source of reliable information. There's no censorship of our shock jocks, Sky news or the Murdoch press.
