Have a look at the inside of the top vent. On ours to the right of the cut out for the flue there is a vertical slot about 40 x 4 mm. The removeable outer cover has two top vent slots angled in and downwards to help vent the flue gasses. With wind on that side of the van rain would go into those and through that slot into rear of fridge.
I think that trying to seal the outer edges of the vent is a waste of time. If you drive on a wet road, the whole side of the caravan is exposed to spray from the road, and some of this will get into the area behind the fridge. The vent itself has a gasket which should keep out most of the direct water on the outer faces of the van.
Redoing silicone on vents as water got in somewhere. Maybe vents. Thankyou any ideas .
Hi Maz49
Welcome to the forum
If you are asking about silicon on the outside vents, of the fridge area
Be aware that if the fridge is a three way fridge (gas/12 volt/240 volt), then periodically those vents will have to be removed, for maintenance etc
If you are asking about which is the best sealant for roof vents, or joints around the caravan, then I am led to believe that most caravan places carry sealant, which the manufactures use
hi
Non structural ,some windows , all the small storage access doors , vent covers , 3 way fridge vents , lights were once all done/sealed by butyl rubber . Many van makers still use it . Butyl rubber needs to be replaced every 5-10 yrs .
Modern equivalent is made by SIKA called Sika-Sil Industrial = highly flexible for light body construction on RV . This product is specifically for RV.
As with all silicon products it is semi permanent .
Urethane products are permanent, item will be glued strongly so much so the trim is often destroyed during removal process.
