Sadly there an awful lot of complacency that has crept in to Society these days as many of these lethal diseases have been all but eradicated, the newer generations have no idea of the ravages and pain caused by these diseases.

We all had Polio vaccinations when we were kids at school, I can only vouch for the 60's as that is when i went to school. But even then many families knew of someone that had been affected by Poliomyelitis.

There are only the odd outbreaks in third world countries now due to the on going efforts Globally to eradicate the disease totally. The number of cases can generally be counted on one hand fortunately.

Let's hope that there are no registered cases in London as foul and polluted water is a known carrier....

Polio is still endemic in three countries, i.e., Pakistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan and is eradicated from the rest of the world.

I hope that we as a country dont adopt the negativity displayed by some with regarding to vaccinations of more recent times if this disease, once again, takes hold in Australia.

I too, went to school with some with Polio and can speak from experience as to the ability of the vaccine to offer full control of this insidious disease.

As more and more people move from country to country, these type of diseases may become a real threat to those nations that have, in the past eliminated these conditions with vaccines.
