The really scary thing is that the US is essentially all that stands between us and Russia and China. We are living in apocalyptic times, especially if Trump makes a comeback.

They are not nutcase gun laws, Its the looney left media in America who sensationalize gun related incidents, are you aware that more people are murdered with Kitchen Knives than guns.
Most people who are anti gun here in Australia have never handled one or seen one, except in movies and beleive the BS that eminates from fools, we as a nation could not defend ourselves if we were invaded, so what what are you going to do when or if it happens.

An interesting comment from someone with an interesting name on this subject.

How many more schoolkids have to die before gun nuts recognise and accept the obvious solution? Please take your gun toting mantra somewhere else.

Don't see toooooo many mass stabbings do we???
I really can't see how any intelligent person can stand up and stick up for their laws, sorry!
Have you actually seen the stats on people dying from mass shootings in the US
"BS from fools" you say, thats rather a rash statement don't you think!!

It wasn't the " looney left media " that shot all those little kids, some in the face at close range but some looney with an assault rifle.
Dont forget the crime gangs in Sydney and Melbourne with guns almost a shooting every couple of days
Are you implying that we should allow more guns into the community to address the imbalance?
More people are killed by frying pans than rocket propelled grenades. Should that be an argument to allow ownership of RPGs?
As for crime gangs, criminals kill criminals. Sickos kill school children. Criminals get their guns from other criminals. Sickos get them from Walmart.

Quote from management at large company I worked for trying to justify their mess. 'We had to stuff up to see if we were doing it right." & they certainly did stuff up!
Maybe everyone should get weapons & then we can see if it was better without weapons.

Happiness is a warm gun.
No, happiness is a gun so hot you can fry eggs on the barrel.
In my opinion there is something fundamentally wrong with modern society
This is reflected in the numbers of people suffering from depression.
Social media is a major contributing factor in this scenario.
It also seems to me that its fashionable to be a "lame duck".
So many people seem to need counselling for feeling insecure, anxious, inadequate, stressed, alienated, inferior etc etc.
The mental health budget has gone thru the roof.
What's causing it?
The US has the same problems but they vent their feeling by blowing other peoples heads off with assault weapons.
Luckily for us we have stringent gun laws which should always stay in place.
This is a lengthy and complex discussion about the issue of USA schools shootings - as I argued in a previous thread this is a lengthy and complex problem and simplistic solutions will not work:
At almost 2 hours long you would need a deeper interest in the subject than I have. Care to give us a brief?
I watched Boab's linked video by Bill Maher. Bill's point is that violent movies are the prime root cause of gun violence. Hollywood movies are increasingly about violence, with more firepower, more blood and gore, and increasingly graphic. The more we see of this, the more immune we become, and the easier to act out those fantasies.
Yet with all that violence, the hypocracy is that nobody is raising an eyebrow. The root cause of gun violence, is not worth mentioning?

The root cause of school shootings or any other mass shooting in the US ( which happens weekly or thereabouts. ) is the ease at which assault weapons can be bought by nutcases, who are having a bad hair day...or the neighbors cat walked on their car.
They want to become famous after they kill themselves or are shot by someone else.
I've watched a billion western re-runs...from Hopalong Cassidy to Russell Crowe and l've never felt like running out to shoot anyone.
Assault weapons...and the ease that they can be bought...plus nut jobs are the common denominator.

If you had an assault weapon would you feel like running out to shoot anyone? You are the same as 99.99999% of the population who would not (how many decimal points should there be?). But some do, as they have done in Australia.
There are other countries that have relaxed gun laws, but they don't have the same problems. And if you research the US statistics you will see that handguns are used in many more killings than assault weapons. The criminals will always get their weapons (as they do in Australia with our fairly tight gun laws). Don't compare the US to Australia when it comes to crime. If I lived there I would want an assault rifle for protection. I believe they save more lives than they take.
Anyway, it's written into their constution from back in a different era. Part of the justification then was protection of the country. Now that guns are enshrined in the American way of life, changing the constitution is unlikely to happen in a hurry.
In a different thread KevinJ made a comment along the lines of "Who would attack the US with 300,000,000 armed citizens?". Maybe we should encourage gun ownership in Australia for our protection .

Firstly, you don't know me or which or how many recreational firearm or hunting organisations l have been a member of or what positions l have held in them.
I have been around firearms since the mid sixties and have done a lot of hunting and target shooting.
Have used a SKS in the early -mid 70's but never owned one
This discussion is about mass random shooting in the US.
Has nothing to do with Australia's gun laws.
We have had very few random mass shootings in Australia since Port Arthur ( which is 90 mins away )
Apart from criminals shooting each other or one in Darwin
That is a good thing.
Ya don't see many random mass shootings with muzzle loading single shot black powder weapons,
As you know M30 the person who mostly never sees the effect of their shot is the person standing behind the black powder muzzle loader. Used a friends lever action Marlin 45/70 with the original black powder loading, didn't know whether I'd hit the pig for a good five seconds :)
