Old sealant can usually be scraped off with paint scraper, area needs to be thoroughly cleaned with spirits, Then you may replace the sealant with either Sika or Bostik products - go to their respective websites to obtain correct type.
A truly lifetime waterproof seal that may be able to be applied is Butyl Tape available on line - this product is specifically designed for such application/s.

The best sealant release I have found is WD40, spray liberably over the area, let it penetrate for a few minutes and then scrap off with a scrapper.

As for reasealing the area use any roof and gutter silicone product and then cover it with aluminum flashing tape.

This is a great product from the big green shed.

Never used it, haven't heard much about it, except on adds, but here goes.
You can get a spray liquid rubber sealant from places now. Anyone out there used it and can comment? From adds it looks like it does a good job, but that's an add. Think it comes in white and maybe clear.

Most caravan repair places will be happy to advise on method and product.

Sika sealant from Bunnings. Read label for correct one to use. Clean area with spirits.

Prefer NOT to use silicone. Sika is a rubber type . Much better

We encountered a leak on our pop top, due to all the heavy rain in Queensland a few months ago. Our friend cleaned up the old sealant and the sprayed it twice with that awesome stuff called Flex Seal (clear) from Big W.  Did a fantastic job and walllah.... no more leaks.
