WEIGHTS, again

I weighed my van and Ranger today at the Wyalkatchem CBH, W.A. didn't bother unhooking or anything like that, don't have a WDH because it tows very well. 5.4t

Rangers tow very well due to their long wheel base and the inbuilt trailer stability control, so of all the vehicles that I have towed with, the Ranger probably has benefited the least with the fitment of a WDH.

However, it does benefit.
I have tried mine with and without, and it is definitely nicer to drive with the WDH connected and the braking distance is definitely improved. Even my wife in the passenger seat notices the difference.

Look upon it as an aid to handling not as some leveling device.

However, if your happy, go for it.

I am in Ipswich having driven from Melbourne without a WDH. Had no problems except for the potholes and the detours due to "Major Flood Warnings" along the route. No instability when passing or being overtaken by B doubles. That could be because of the Dexter Sway Control combined with the Pajero Sport's inbuilt sway control.
I shall set up and use the WDH for the return trip and determine if it is worth the bother.

I am back in Melbourne now.
I didn't notice a lot of difference.
The hitch is solid steel and weighs about 40kg, but may be lighter, it is over 50 years since I was handling 50kg. bags of chemicals in a paint factory and muscle memory is no longer in calibration. But adding the hitch made the rear of the car sink quite a lot so when I attached the van the front was raised only 15mm. I adjusted the hitch to recover about half that.
But it is quite subjective so I will keep using the hitch for a few thousand kms and get used to the ride and then do a trip with them not attached and see what the difference is.
It is a new car and rides quite differently to my old car.
