RE: Made in China, assembled here

I only buy anything made in China if I have absolutely no choice. These filthy animals are complicit in all which is corrupt in our World.

The issue is not where the product is made rather the consumer being given full disclosure by dealers and manufacturers about the manufacturing source of the product.
Building the shell and furniture overseas and putting it together in a shed in Campbellfield is not exactly "Made in Australia"

Chinese take away different because they live here. Presumably they are here because of the s&^t hole China is

and how much better Australia is.

That is well said. Full disclosure is whats needed.

We live in the "free enterprise system", that dictates that everything that is made has to be able to generate a profit. If the product has a labour content then it is compliant on the product seller to find the cheapest reliable location to manufacture the item. The Chinese have taken advantage of that need and as a result now have a significant percentage of the worlds production. Like it or not they have been smarter than most other low cost labour nations.

I agree full disclosure is needed, but I think most people don't have the time, energy & funds for an alternative choice, if you can find an alternative anyway.

We are so bogged down with the complexities of life, we mostly give up, just can't cope anymore.

Oh, now my new reading glasses are still not good enough to read the fine print on the back of the packaging. Often have to stack a couple of pairs.

Yep  I did that with my Jap built GQ (1996) Patrol.  Bloody driver's side door lock broke the other day & only after 26 years!  Wonder if that is covered under warranty? LOL

Agreed, but are the Yanks any better or even the self-interested Euro sector .. and then there's the ruskies.

Thank goodness for all us altruistic Aussies.  The Lefties that is.  Without us where would the world be.

Is that my GQ Patrol you're talking about?  Made in Plant "X"  can't read the Jap characters in Aug 95   Called it a 96 model.

Gees Cupie would you have been better off buying a genuine made in Australia Ford Falcon at that time. Their door handles lasted about 26 mths and you bought a dozen at a time ??

Interesting to see people revealing their biases on here. Hmmm > Life was perfect before the Chinese appeared with cheap goods. Hmm  ??

Ford got something right. At the time Ford owned & designed the Land Rover Freelander. It's been reliable & no OEM parts have failed & it was built in UK. All the ducks lined up for once. The Range Rover Evoque is a vertically challenged younger sibling of the Freelander.

Iza, I must ask from where did you get the notion that the Best Solar Panels are all made in China?  Having sold literally thousands of high quality Solar systems in three different Australian states, nothing under 6kw, I can assure you that while China may produce some items that are world class, Solar Panels are definitely not one of them.  my word some people are willing in 2023 to say things like that in public and reveal their true thinking.

I thought we were attempting to stop slavery in all supply chains, not condone it.

I am ashamed to see that written here.

Obviously the comment goes well over the head of the odd person.

Most would understand the comment. China, has a completely failed OH&S system, kill girls because they don't carry the family name (40 million short), heath system, dentistry system, pension system & fair living wages unless you are a party member.

Not to forget the aging population, in a decade they will need every last male to care for parents. The country is on a road to nowhere.

I sort of agree with the sentiment but in reality the vehicles themselves aren't that bad...a neighbor bought one in the mid 70's...it was often said back then that if you had a head on bingle with another vehicle you would stuff your knees for life,

My d-i-l has a new one...8 months old...it may never be regarded as a classic in the future but the 7 year warranty takes away most of the ' shame '

Its not bad to drive either.

Hi all; My wifes 2003 holden car had a minor use of water that my mechanic or the RACT could not fix ( every morming one would have to add 1/2 a cup of water to the radiator ) It got to the point that one day it boild and after spending a lot of money in so called repairs, we sold it. Looking forward to a new car and watching our pennys, i ended up with a second hand little Hyundai i30 SR with wit 57,400 Kms. Payed a fair price for that car and now the car has been in our ownership for just over two years. Nothing has broken or come adrift. To the point of last year i upgraded my own car due to a slite accedent that wrote of the car( 1999 AU ford falcon with at the time only had 116,000 Kms. !!! again i went looking for another car ( and from the same caryard ). This time i came away with anothe Hyundai, this time a Elantra with only 31,000 Kms and as new condition !!. Same 2 ltr drive train and the wifes i30 but a little bit bigger. Both cars have been fantastic, cheap on fule, quiet ( to a point ) and do there jobs with out fuss.

Remember in the 60's and 70's when a lot of Japenese cars were imported to Australia and we all thought that they would not last the distance ( think of the little toyota coroller ) and how many of them are still around today. Yes some have gone by the wayside, but alot are still on the road today.

Are you sure that you don't mean "hysterical" vehicle? When I was involved in collecting scrap metal I crushed many Tritons with a 30 ton excavator, and loved every minute!  Cheers

Recently friends have bought an EV each. One is a $100,000 Tesla and the other a $50,000 BYD. I have to say that the general fit and finish of the Chinese BYD is actually better than the Tesla. Leaving aside any principles of buying Chinese products, generally speaking, much of the stuff coming out of China isn't too bad. I have a number of items of machinery in my workshop such as a lathe and milling machine that do the job perfectly well. Are they as good as some of the old brand British and American machines? No they are not but the purchase price is a fraction of those and they function and perform perfectly adequately.
