HWS removal

Has anyone had or heard of a hot water system having to be removed by cutting a whole through the side of the van or motorhome to aid removal???

It does not surprise me.  I had to cut/modify the floor of a wardrobe to gain access to mine - it is now easy to remove via the "removable " wardrobe floor, plugs I installed on the electrical connections and extended screws I made to hold the unit in place !   If you need to cut a hole in a wall install a "hatch" to make future access easy.   KB

We need to remove the side section of the bed to get to ours in the cupboard next bed.

Really probably the best place for the hot water service.

I do need to remove ours over the Christmas break and I will allow a whole day to complete the job.

I can actually see the top of my hot water system, and did manage to change the 240 volt element

It was not very easy, even after dismantling as much of the bed, as I could. (The steel frame of the bed, is too large to be removed)

I vowed that next time, I will put a small access door, in the rear wall, roughly where the element is, to make life easier for me

I have now decided that I may as well put a large access door in the rear wall, so that I will be able to remove the whole unit, if need be

Hopefully, as I seldom use caravan parks, the element will last forever, as I do not plan to use it again

I would assume that there must be a trick, to change out a hot water system

Perhaps it would be better to find someone, who has actually performed that particular job previously
