Morgans research was too late for inclusion in 2019 awards, as it was being done during 2018. She was never nominated for consideration as 2019 Person of the Year because of that, so she didnt get beaten by Ms Thunberg.
Dr Curry isnt an all out denier of climate change (early publications of hers supported it), but she now suggests it is not as clear cut or severe as the more vocal climate changers are.

Chaos, mayhem, confusion. Good my job here is done
She gets plenty of media coverage, and a lot more.
"Curry has repeatedly been invited as a witness to United States Congressional hearings as one of the few scientists advancing doubts about the significance of human contributions to climate change, and political figures have used Curry's statements and writings in their arguments."
"Between 2014 and February 2019, Curry testified before at least six Republican-led House committees, expressing the idea that the dangers of global warming are overstated and difficult to predict. These testimonies include criticisms of President Obama's climate plan, the UN climate action plan, and other policy proposals aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions. In her Natural Resources Committee testimony on February 6, 2019, Curry stated that, "Man-made climate change is not an existential threat in the 21st century.... The perception of a near-term apocalypse has narrowed the policy options"."
"In February 2019, Curry was on a Trump administration candidate list for a "Presidential Committee on Climate Security" to perform an "adversarial scientific peer review" of climate science.[28] The administration offered Curry a senior position at the NOAA in late 2020, which Curry declined."
The idea that Thunberg gets 24/7 media coverage is obviously absurd.
I agree that the wrong people receive the accolades and rewards in our society, but that's the fault of human nature, and it happens in every facet of life. How can someone who hits a little ball into a little hole earn enough money to buy a private jet? Why do we pay him more than scientists like Morgan Savage, or Judith Curry, for that matter? That's what is really wrong with our society.
That said, Morgan Vague's discovery of plastic eating bacteria is hardly the "greatest innovation of our time". It's just a ploy used by the author to skew the reader's perceptions. Unsurprisingly, that's something that the author accuses the media of doing.

According to the Guardian;
Thunbergs parents say their daughter, once painfully introverted, was always a bit different to other children.
Four years ago, she was diagnosed with Aspergers, on the autism spectrum, which helps explain her remorseless focus on the core issue of climate change after overcoming depression. Being different is a gift, she told Nick Robinson when interviewed on Radio 4s Today programme. It makes me see things from outside the box. I dont easily fall for lies, I can see through things. If I wouldve been like everyone else, I wouldnt have started this school strike for instance.
She admitted her passion was partly down to viewing the world in stark terms. The result of her simplistic approach, fuelled by her condition, is that she has presented this issue with more clarity and competence than almost any adult activist or politician in recent years.
And there is something in hearing this teenager demonstrate by her actions how society is stronger when it embraces difference a message that seems so pertinent to our troubled age. Indeed, this aspect of her stance as a now-public figure on the autism spectrum is arguably as important as her bold stand on climate change, given many prevailing attitudes.
Her net worth is well over $1,000,000.00

And I have no doubt she will be donating all of that to climate change mitigation and research... won't she...?
Not if she's living in it. "Worth" includes the roof over your head. The last time I looked, $1m would buy you a hovel somewhere in the outer suburbs.
Perhaps you're right.
I realise she is a world renowned expert on climate and certainly feels qualified to lecture international experts on what the world should do but is she old enough to sign contracts yet?

I don't think she makes any claim to being an expert of any kind. Thunberg is simply a climate change activist. Her aim is to convince the politicians to heed the advice of the scientific community. That's all. Any claims as to her expertise are something that others have conjured up.

Hmmmmm....
So; to repeat my question:
Why is Greta Thunberg lauded and famous?

"Thunberg initially gained notice for her youth and her straightforward and blunt speaking manner, both in public and to political leaders and assemblies, in which she criticizes world leaders for their failure to take what she considers sufficient action to address the climate crisis."
That was how she started, but maybe now it's a lot of this:
"Ms Thunberg's most recent project has been creating and curating a book of essays by dozens of experts, to provide a toolkit for those concerned about climate change."
