Once the scale of the wet weather became clear I decamped from my beautiful lakeside location in NW Victoria a few weeks past and parked myself in this pleasant little community caravan park in central west Victoria: hard standing, P&W, a few shops and no river in about 25km - so far so good.
I have been hoping to head back into the bush ASAP but the never ending rain seems insurmountable; we get a dry week and sprits lift then, as yesterday/today we receive another 30mm and everything is back to square one.
Today I drove the 50km into Horsham to do a Safeway shop, this is a journey through farmland and the amount of static water was greater than anything I have seen in my 30 years in Victoria and I have travelled extensively in this state. Looking at the land and tracks I cannot see a possibility of driving off-road for at least one month perhaps two and I suspect one will need to be very cautious of becoming bogged for perhaps a further month. The concept of towing a 3T caravan off-road in these conditions is farcical.
And today the BoM informs that more significant rain is heading this way around the weekend. Oh well at least I am better off than my good friend Peter who is (knowingly) marooned in his house near Echuca with water 80mm below floor level but otherwise totally covering his block, perhaps I'll be helping him with a cleanup in a few weeks?
Maybe I should hitch up the van and head west well into SA, they still seem dry....

Yep good idea, but don't stop at just SA (nice place just the same) continue on to WA where the weather is beautiful, and we welcome all. Just don't forget the friendly wave

2016 was an exceptionally wet year in Victoria. After things dried out a bit we took off on a 6 week trip across Victoria starting at Lake Ratzcastle in the Wimmera. The mozzies were horrific. As we travelled east we called into Bendigo & Shepparton to buy some personal insect repellent at supermarkets. All sold out of every brand. Same thing will probably happen this year. We don't mind a few mozzies but this was exceptional.

It is good and sensible that you have stopped calling me a "Dickhead" every time you post a response to me however please don't feel compelled to respond to my threads because you rarely have anything of worth to say and you are a nasty person. Your photographs are good though.
